1. What does the "C" stand for in C-Dory? ( i should know this, but i don't)

2. The legendary photos of the faCDory guys playing on the mighty columbia river bar are great. I have heard there is also video footage of this same outing. Is this true? If so, how can i find it?

3. Speaking of the mighty columbia bar, have there ever been any confirmed known incidents of a C-Dory capsizing in the ocean?
 
My understanding is that the "C" is a play on "Sea"

I have not seen any video, but it may exist.

One C Dory capsized in the surf, was salvaged and eventually rebuilt. She had been beat up pretty bad, with loss of most of the cabin top and deck on the rocks.

I believe that there is one case of a 22 being swamped in Alaska in heavy seas. I don't remember the details, and It was mentioned by one of the boaters in AK. The first link is about that:

There was a CD25 that tangled the anchor line in the prop and got swamped by the tide and lost in in Cook Inlet a few years back.
 
Generally what happens with anchor line tangled in the props, is that the boat is swung stern to the seas. Then the seas break over the stern, and fill the boat with water. The C Dory lifts fast enough to avoid any boarding seas, as long as she is not pinned down. Thus the admonition not to anchor from the stern! Basically the two C Dory capsizes which have been documented were operator error. Getting in too close to a surf line, perhaps loosing power (?), and poor handling when pulling anchor.

The important issue is that there is no documented case of a C Dory capsizing when running, even in some very heavy seas.
