90hp Suzuki shuts down at idle

My 90hp Suzuki is shutting down when idling after we run it to the marina from Bear Island. Makes docking a challenge. Marina mechanic can't seem to fix the problem. Also, he reports gas in oil. This is a 2005 model with many hours.

Anyone have a clue?

mdoug,

I hope you're not experiencing the infamous Suzuki corrosion problems experienced by many Suzuki motor owners of that vintage. That's one of the symptoms.

Has your boat been moored in the water or dry stored? Check out this thread:

Nope

If 1 of the fuel pumps is driven by the camshaft, a ruptured diaphragm can leak fuel into the crankcase via the valve train area. That could explain the gas in the oil.

Idle speed is controlled by the IAC (Idle Air Control). It is electronic and must be diagnosed by plugging the motor into a computer w/ SDS(Suzuki Diagnostic Software). Are you getting any trouble codes?
If its leaking exhaust from corrosion, you should get 1 or more trouble codes from the engine.

Nothing other than a possible timing issue. Marina returned Mikey to me running ok yesterday, So far, so good.

Thanks to all for the help!

thanks

Any explanation on gas in the oil?

How old are the thermostats?

The IAC can be removed and cleaned with throttle body cleaner and a few Q tips

No explanation other than possible timing advance problem. Therms are original 2005. Diagnostic shows no IAC issue.

What did the marina do to the engine?

Not much! Getting new suzy90 installed on June 28. Enough is enough.
