I noted an article in Boat US this month. "Norway's Fleet of 'Flying Electric Ferries'. These are hydrofoil boats by Candela Electric boats. The specific boat in the article is a passanger ferry catamaran which runs on foils. But many of their boats were monohulls. Here is a video on an electric boat doing 150 miles in a day. A trip from Sweden to Finland, rechage about an hour in Finland, and back to Sweden; 75 miles each way. The speeds we in the 20 knot plus.

It looks as if the forward foil swings aft for shoal water and trailering. The Aft foil, which contains the electric motor retracts up and down, like a dagger board. It would be fairly easy to build a cruising boat to this stye. Now if I were a little younger I would be interested in this type of boat. The ferry boats are all cabin, so there would be a compromist for the "Cruising Boat".

There was one at the Seattle Boat Show in 2025. You can find all the latest about electric boats at https://plugboats.com/ . The Europeans are way ahead of us in electric boating. There are at least 25 companies that are producing electric boats these days; ranging from inflatable to 50' cruisers and catamarans. https://plugboats.com/plugboats-guide-to-electric-boat-exhibitors-venice-boat-show-2026/ If anyone is interested in converting to electric I would be pleased to try an answer any questions you might have. It's really easy to convert today since most equipment is now available "off the shelf." For a 22 ft C-Dory it would take about a 20kW motor to get in on a plane. I cruise at hull speed so only need 6kW.
