A somewhat odd kicker installation (I think)

Just talked to Irish's up in Charlevoix, MI where my CD 22 is getting an anchor winldass and some other add-ons.

After noodling about how to install the Honda 5HP kicker, the service manager called Triton (kudos to him for looking them up and taking the initiative!) and asked them about installing another swim platform as a twin to the one on the port side.

He suggests installing the swim platform and then hanging the kicker from a bracket attached to the platform. This would necessitate steering the kicker by its tiller rather than slaving it to the big dog. I'm ok with that because I am installing the kicker for emergency use or for close in work where stumps and rocks may be present (so I'd be back there anyway).

I know that some of you have installed a kicker next to the main engine without a problem but I kind of liked his idea. DO you see any problem with the setup?

One other thing, however the engine is installed, I want to be able to trailer the boat without removing the kicker.

Thanks!

I don't think it's a strange arrangement at all - in fact that is what I've been planning to do on Katmai (when I get around to it).

I already have a Garelick hinged bracket to use, just haven't gotten around to drilling the starboard swim step to mount the bracket.

Your approach should work just fine. We also installed our kicker on a bracket attached to the swim platform. It has worked out great and I don't remove the kicker when we trailer. I simply drop the kicker into the vertical (or running) position and it trailers just fine.

I normally run the kicker when trolling around for salmon and either have a bar attached between the main and kicker to allow for steering from the helm or I run the kicker from the cockpit using a handle extension which is needed because the kicker is set back a bit.
