A stunning victory for the whales

There have been many great legal victories trying to control the natures of men, but men have a way of proceeding to do what they want to do without regard to great legal victories. It will be interesting to see if the Japanese groups who make a pile of money from whaling...for scientific purposes...of course, follow the law.

While it might not be the popular opinion, I'm not sure why they shouldn't be able to eat whales. I understand their populations are decreasing as are many ocean species. But for one country to eliminate a food of another population somehow seems unfair.

Perhaps conservation should be encouraged and then the groups who eat whales will not have to disguise their intent as research.

FYI, I have watched many episodes of "Whale Wars" and enjoy it very much.

While I don't agree with the whaling Japan does, I have a much larger issue with these terrorists disguised as "environmentalists" or "animal lovers". I have seen the show numerous times and was impressed by the controlled response, restraint & demeanor the Japanese showed when blatantly attacked on the hi-seas by what I can only describe as criminals. They give true animal lovers a bad name (to say the least) and IMO the actions of the "Sea Shepherds" is/was criminal in it's intent. The end does NOT justify the means they employed. Period. I thank God that no human was killed. Hopefully, this will put all that to rest once and for all, but I have a feeling the organization will zero in on some other cause and once again bring fear, intimidation and violence upon someone else.

I share the same sentiments as Localboy. The Sea Shepard organization came out of Greenpeace, and they are another eco-terrorist organization looking to further their agenda.

ok--- I step off of the soap box

+1 Mark. I could only stomach watching that show once or twice and I agree with you 100%

I am happy that the killing of these beautiful animals may come to an end. We can only hope.

I grew tired of watching that egotist manipulate the idealism and passion of the young people on board his boat. They were just cannon fodder for his glory. You didn't see him out on any of those small boats attacking (yes that's the word) the Japanese whalers. I disagree with the fake Japanese research but I just cannot stand the the Sea Shepherds. They should be eternally grateful that they chose to attack Japan rather than Russian shipping.

Not to pile on the supposed captain of the Sea Shepard but hey the useless dipshit deserves it. ( and yes I am being nice). I believe he is still a wanted many in two countries and should be turned over for prosecution. He has in danger-ed people's live over and over again for profit and self delusional grandeur for years. Its amazing that no one got kill from his terrorist acts. Sadly this supposed victory will only encourage more of the same.

As for the bigger question of the whales. The whales that are being hunted by the Japanese are not endangered. There numbers are staple and even going up. That is why the Japanese got to hunt them, even for supposed research. Their take was set as a small portion of the total increase in population even year. I don't think I would eat whale on a regular bases but what other people do is their business as long as it does not reduce the population. The Chinese eat a lot of dog and even thou I have tried it twice, and liked it, it is not some thing I want on the menu on a regular bases. But I find is selfish to tell another culture what they can eat. The last whaling station in the U.S. was in the bay area until the mid 70's. Whale was not a uncommon food here on the west coast until then. There is whale hunting in a bay in Denmark every year. The population is stable and limits are set to keep it that way. The meat and blubber are given away to the towns people and the old people. Its a major part of their meat for the year. Don't see the Sea Shepard bothering them, yet.

You are spot on, Barry. Like I said, I've seen the show a few times. He is a pathological narcissist and manipulator. I found his entire persona loathsome.
