ACR AIS Receiver

Does anyone know if this unit will work on a 16' Angler with a Garmin GPSMap 640 Chartplotter? I'd really like to install radar, but the height would not allow me to keep the boat inside my garage. Thanks!

My new Standard Horizon 2150 is beiing installed, so I have my AIS taken care of.

I installed my Standard-Horizon GX2150 a couple of weeks ago. I like that it aids AIS without needing another antenna. And, as others have mentioned, it has loudhailer and fog-horn functionality (when you install a horn; which I did).

Lots of buttons, bells, and whistles -- but it's not THAT complicated to operate.

Janet and I decided to upgrade Muse's radio when we attended a CGA course on DSC and AIS. We realized that our old VHF was way past its prime.

It should connect with ease to that GPS. Like mine (Garmin GPSMAP 421), your unit has 2 NMEA 0183 ports, each of which can be configured to be high speed if necessary. The port on your GPS for the ACR will have to be configured to receive high speed data. Have a look at the installation instructions for your GPS and that of the ACR receiver (both may be available on the internet). Very easy to connect and very few wires involved.

Looks like these are no longer manufactured. Everywhere I looked said "item no longer available". :? Even the ACS website didn't have it.

You're right, it looks like ACR got out of the AIS business. But EM-TRAK makes an AIS receiver that is amazingly similar. So similar, in fact, that the manual seems virtually identical to that of the ACR unit I got.

I have an ACR Nauticast AIS receiver for sale. I bought it a month or two ago when Boris and Roger got theirs and connected it to my Raymarine C-80. It functions perfectly but I found I lost my DCS position data on the VHF. I got a multiplexer and worked to get all the connections right. Same problem. It is not the receiver, it is the C-80 which has only a single NEMA183 port. I paid around $125 and will sell it for $100 and will throw in a good AIS antenna and about 15' of coax. This includes the owner's manual and shipping. I am going to go to a Standard Horizon GX2150. Standard Horizon assures me it will connect to my C-80. PM me if you have interest in the AIS
