Just ordered a PLB thanks to Brent for posting link. Do you register these units ,guess keep them charged put antenna up and push button if needed pretty simple? Plan also on additional safety equipment ,since we will be boating for season on Lake Erie . Chasing walleye will be venturing 5 to 10 miles out. Figured get one since units are on sale, get rest of gear in spring. BOE marine is where they are on sale till end of week they said.

Yes - you register the units. It's a simple process but it connects the unit's digital ID to information about you. They generally come with sealed batteries that are good for several years. The unit you bought has the following spec in that regard - "Replacement due six (6) years from date of manufacture or five (5) years after beacon is placed into service, whichever is first, or after emergency use". Instructions on how to use come with the device but in general it's pop the antenna and push a button.

Thanks will read instructions when I get it. Nice for peace of mind for sure. Guess you think you never will need it, but boat fire or any mishap might occur. Up till now boating was on a lake where you could see both shorelines,if im taking wife and others out of site of land I want to have this and probably an E-Pirb.
