PEOPLE, PEOPLE, PLEASE!!!! Let's get a grip here. I was on the trip that Naptime was referencing in his original post, and I can assure you he was (at that time) very complimentary about Active Captain. I perceived his post to be a querry as opposed to a criticism.

C-Brat's only rule----BE NICE!!!!

You know, I just want to say after re-reading the entire thread, that this wasn't my finest moment. I didn't handle it properly.

I can give the excuse that we're attacked these days in ways you wouldn't imagine. I'm too quick to jump to the conclusion that this is another writer or publisher causing problems instead of debating the subject. But an excuse isn't good enough and it doesn't excuse the behavior. I'm sorry for taking part in the attack myself.

Thank you Active Captain. Been using your site (contributing too) for years and LOVE it.

Nothing more fun than sitting at my desk researching a cruise or dreaming of future cruises and planning them.

Again. Thank you!!!!!!!!

I have no idea why this thread came back up to the surface. However, I went to it yesterday to check on some harbors on Santa Cruz Island and see what Active captain had there. Much seemed to be out of sailing directions/cruising guide and some was in error. I think that Active Captain still is far more popular on the Gulf and East Coast. There was a lot of excellent Alaska data added recently. Jeff has just started a new facet--having to do with Electronic Boat Cards. This type of what I see (maybe wrongly) as social media, is not my bag.

However, I still find that Active Captain is a great boon to all boaters---if they use it. It is only as successful as those who sail to places, update and write reviews. There would be better material on the West Coast--and it could be a source on the North Channel and Cumberland Lake as asked for in the last few days--if we all put in our knowledge (I am guilty of being lazy). Then more areas would be covered in better detail.

AC is now integrated with Garmin Charts in some applications, as well as other chart programs. This is another leap forward.

Jeff has expanded many parts of AC even in the last 12 months since this post was first on C Brats. For that I think all of us should be thankful to Jeff. I highly recommend that all C Brats at least join and contribute as much as they can to the knowledge base.
