Active Captain

Has anyone tried to log into Active Captain recently? I've tried but can't get in. I know a portion of their site went to a pay sight but I was under the impression this was just for cell phone communication. I was getting in fine with my desktop a few days ago but I'm away from home and trying to get in with my laptop.

I was just on(at work) also on last night at home and it was working for me. I have not paid but just using the free part.

Works fine for me using both Mac (Firefox) and PC (internet Explorer). Jeff may chime in--but the basic web site and date base is still free. The Cell phone and its charts with services are pay. There has been recent modification of the payment plan etc.

Thanks Bob I've tried to open it with both Internet Exployer and Firefox. Apparently there is something in this Vista program preventing it from loading. I've really missed having it on my little cruise. Fortunately I copied info from it that I thought I might need to my chart plotter before leaving. I'm sitting at a Marina in Morehead City waiting out this storm.

I'm sorry that I missed this posting - I would have responded sooner...

There hasn't been any downtime for the ActiveCaptain server over the last 20 months. Occasionally, a firewall setting gets in the way of allowing access. I receive questions about not being able to access the site like this about once a month - it's rare but it almost always involves a firewall because the Flash code is making requests back to the server to get the markers, etc. If your firewall is blocking the site, the only way around it is to manually allow the site in the firewall settings.

As you thought, the web site is still completely free and will remain free. We only charge for the mobile phone software for Palm and very-very-soon-now, Windows Mobile.

Thanks Jeff I changed the security seetings on my lap top and I'm now able to access the sight with Firefox but still can't get in with IE. Seems as IE was not letting Adobe Flash Player load for some reason.

Jeff thanks for the info. I'm sure the problem is with my laptop settings because I don't have the same problem with my desk top computer.
