All time Best Modification on your CD22

I recently read the $20 upgrade and thought I might try to start another thread. My wife and I just recently bought and I'm interested in what others think we should add to ours. Sky is the limit - what in your opinion was the best mod?
I think for us it is the Camper back. Increases living space, provides cover in bad weather, could also add sleeping area as well. I have a question to those replying as well, what have you done to keep your perishables cool? Have you added shore power, refrig and carry a small gen? Extra large cooler? I'm curious as we are looking to spend quite a few weekend out on the boat with no shore power and know we are going to be carrying food too. Thanks much!

For refigeration on both the 22 and the 25, we use two ice chests. We can get 5 days at Powell without new ice--keeping the ice chests under towels which we keep wet with lake water.

We never used the "ice box" in the boat, except as bread storage. We have the refigerator on the 25, and will put a few items in it, but will still have the ice chests--even with a generator. These refigerators are very small. We have the Norcold freezer/refigerator chest on the Tom Cat, which we think is a much better "refigerator solution"--and we use it for frozen foods. Marie is busy canning for our trip as I type. Since I eat only chicken and fish (heart healthy) she is putting up chicken dishes which are very low fat. We hope to suppliment the diet with stripers!

Many veggies will keep well with just ventillation. We used net hamocks in our sailboats: cabbage will keep weeks. Carrots keep very well.

the 2kw honda generator was a nice addition for us, it sure is nice for powering up a little microwave, coffee maker and other electrical knick-knacks.

If one is ambitious, the insulation and roof vent make the boat much more comfy for overnighting, I don't miss wakeing up with that rain forrest feeling :)

spray deflectors for side windows are sure nice. I like being able to run with the window cracked open aand not get wet in a cross wind.

I opened up the helm area and find it much more comfortable.

I sure like a few quality coolers for food storage. They work good, are versitile and you can load them up in the house and lug the buggers out to the boat.

enjoy fixing up and using the new boat, see you on the river

Best modifications to me would include the radar tower that Les installed at E. Q. Marine. I have the radar, 2 gps antenna, vhf and am-fm antenna mounted and still have room for the fishn' poles.
The rack has routing to the inside for all the cables. All antenna are secure and out of the way. The cables are routed to the inside thru the rack and cables are secured in cornerns of cabin and routed down to gunnels where other cables are located.

Without the rack my cabin roof would have many more holes, and not look as organized, maybe even cluttered.

Only drawback I see is lack of storage for dinghy. I don't need a dinghy.

Mine was a handy dandy cupholder and handy grey tape storage.

Take a role of grey tape and put it on the dash. It serves as a great pop can holder and is always handy when you need grey tape.

One of my favorite "mods" was the addition of the wash down pump. I simply cut into the fresh water tubes under the sink. I ran the coiled hose out so it lie's in the gunnel tray. I really like having fresh water to hose things down. I also like the radar arch with rocket launchers for poles. I added an onboard charger that makes charging up the batteries easy. Ok, I'll stop now.

I removed the second owner of my boat from the list of owners, placed him on the previous owners list, and made myself the current owner. So far...that's the best change that I've made. I'm sure that's not what you wanted to hear, but that little change has me staying up nights dreaming of where this is going to take me.

Well that's an easy question. The all time best mod to the CD22 I had was the reversible front dinette seat. Now it's standard equipment.

That in my opinion is probably the best modification of all! :thup

As for our modifications, the Camperback has sure come in handy with this wet summer we've had. I'm also sure glad we got the Alaskan Series dinghy, those things are indestructible and don't ask me how I know but I do. :wink I really like the way the tall Radar Arch has turned out, the dingy fits under it, the rod holders keep the rods and net out of the way, and it looks pretty cool to boot.

It's hard to argue with success, eh, Mike?

I think that for the money, it has to be the camper canvas. It literally doubles the living space. Lots of different designs out there...have a look at what everyone has and modify to suit your particular needs.

We use the Max Cold coolers for food storage. Works good for us. We have a 110v fridge on our boat and it's nice to have the option to use it when we have a slip for the weekend, but the coolers work great. We use frozen 2 liter pop bottles filled with water for ice...no leaks as it melts...and "block" ice lasts a lot longer than cubes.

For me one of the best mods I made was to add a 3" memory foam mattress to the V-berth. That has had a big influence on how well I sleep on board.

The best factory option I have is the norcold fridge. I love being able to just keep the boat loaded with soft drinks and other cold items and to be able to drop it into the water without worrying about bringing ice and cold provisions. Anything that makes it easier to get to the water increases usage.

Keeping in mind that I have made very few mods to my boat (many more coming at the end of the month via EQ) the best mod I have made thus far is having the foam in my mattress replaced with a much higher quality foam that does not compress as much (this is different from being "harder"). It was expensive but worth it. I may get a memory foam topper but they tend to be hot and I don't want to impede access to the 3 forward lockers.

And it was developed, designed and tested by our very one Head Brat; TyBoo Mike.

Our best mod on both the CD22 and the CD25 was the David-designed under-galley floor with the the roll-out shelves and the hinged door for access to underneath the floor.

Yamaha F 115 on my 22 that's the ticket  . Flat rear deck and a Radar arch self bent and welded doesn't look half bad either total cost $40.00 :beer

How come nobody mentioned the Barrett .50 caliber on a ring-mount in the forward hatch?
