Cordell and I are so happy for our daughter-in-law. She is a coach for the US Speed Skating Team and was a member of the coaching staff in Vancouver. She was awarded the Ikkos Medal by the 4 members of the Team Pursuit team. Here is her email to us telling us of the award.

"To my surprise and great honor, the Men's 2010 US Speedskating Team
Pursuit skaters awarded me the Ikkos Award. This award was created by
the US Olympic Committee prior to the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in
Beijing. The award is to be awarded to coaches by athletes when they
medal. Ikkos was a coach who led two athletes to a Gold Medal in the
Pentathalon in approximately 400B.C.
My skaters who gave me this award and who won the Silver Medal in this event are:
Trevor Marsicano
Jonathan Kuck
Brian Hansen
Chad Hedrick
Also in the photos are Dr. Eric Heiden."

Here is a picture of Laura with her medal, standing with Dr. Heiden. The second photo is of the medal.

We are so excited for her.

Very cool Robbi. It is nice that there is recognition for those that spend so much time and effort in coaching the athletes.

Robbi and Cordell,
This is truly AWESOME! Congratulations to your daughter-in-law and to the two of you!

A wonderful achievement. Thanks for sharing. MartyP

That's wonderful, Robbi. Great kids reflect great parents and partners!! :thup :thup

Thanks for sharing Robbi. I guess your son knows how to pick 'em and since boys often chose spouses that have some of their mom's characteristics, she must be a great gal.

Robbi,

Congratulations and that is way cool. Neat that she gets some acknowledgement for her commitment.

Thanks for sharing your special happiness.

Robbi-

Congratulations to all! I'm sure you're thrilled for all of them!

Joe. :teeth :thup

Very cool. Congratulations all around!

Another Olympic connection, albeit much more tenuous than Robbi's, is that Zach Lund, who took 5th overall and 1st American in the Skeleton, is the son of a good friend from my church in Salt Lake City. This is the unfortunate athlete who used the hair restorer before the 2006 games and flunked the drug test. Now he's embraced the baldness.

Awesome. Congrats Robbi!! I know you have to be sparkling like a light house. Wonderful.
