anchor light placement

I'd like to eventually get a dinghy (RU260 or something like it), but we have a low radar arch, and I'm guessing that with the inflatable on the roof we wouldn't be able to have the white nav/anchor light installed.

Are there any legal limitations on the positioning of the white light? I'm thinking of installing a white nav light on the radar arch. It couldn't be centered because of the radar, and it would probably need to be higher up than the radar for 360 degree visibility. I'm guessing a 3/4" stainless post for the light wouldn't interfere with the radar since I've seen other boats with GPS receivers on similar posts next to the radar.

I believe it is supposed to be centered, and it is supposed to be at least 1 meter above the red and green nav lights.

There are multiple ways of mounting it, either on the arch or from the roof or radar so you have many choices. I just changed to an LED with a longer post from Perko. Found it to not only be longer, but lighter too.

I don't believe there is a requirement for it to be centered, but I would check out the state/federal regs to be certain. My Arima had the anchor light on the side, starboard if I remember correctly.

You could probably mount a plate that would support a centered light between your radome and the arch. I bought a new base for mine when I installed the arch. It was not that expensive.
 
I had exactly the same situation as you (ferret30)- low arch and mounting a RU-260 dingy. I used a piece of starboard as a 'diving board' to move the navigation light forward a few inches. Worked out perfectly. I have a photo under my 'Modifications' folder, but I don't remember how to add it to the body of the post.

If you placed that starboard (or a stiff sheet of stainless or aluminum) on top of your arch, and under the standoffs for the radome, you would have a clean roofline for stowing the dinghy. A second mount for the nav light is very inexpensive. Just wire it in parallel with the original mount, and you can take your choice of where you want it to be, based on what your top load is going to be.

I forgot to mention I also raised the radar dome (as seen in the photo above- thanks Roger) with 6 inch aluminum spacers to eliminate potential interference with the transom of the RU-260 dingy.
