Is it normal practise to have your anchor/running light connected at all times. Looking through the albums, it doesn't seem to be the norm.
I was out solo when I hit an unexpected fog bank, came up on me real fast. I switched on the running lights and then realised my anchor/running light is still sitting in the v-berth. I didn't want to leave the helm and go sort it out in case I needed to take evasive action to avoid a collision. Makes me think I should have it connected at all times for safety. BTW, I do not have radar.

Martin, my two cents worth... Any time there is a real chance of weather or being caught out at night, hook it up.

Putting the anchor/all around light up is part of our normal pre-launch procedure. Just takes a minute. I moved its clips from the vee berth to just above the cabin door so I can reach inside and get it with no trouble. I have turned it and other running lights on several times when visibility deteriorates, fog, heavy rain, etc.

We do not keep it up on the C Dory. Of course fog is rare in our part of the woods. I do keep the cap on the base however.

I have it up all the time, mostly because I forget to take it down, but its convenient nonetheless

Mine is up if the weather or daytime dictates. Rarely have it out, but if the weather, visibility or daytime indicates. I do not like the idea of going up there out on the water so I am pretty careful about getting it up early, ahead of the need.

Mine does not work????? Can not find the problem but will keep on trying.
Red/green work fine

I did not know you could remove the anchor light. How do you take it down. Mine seems loose at times but I have never tired to take off. It makes getting the cover on hard at times and does seem to swivel like its loose. It works and there is cap for it on the dash.

I removed the one that came with our cc-23 and put a LED one that folds down when not in use . its in my photo album JIM

If you have the same Perko fixture that the later model 22's have, then you'll see a black plastic ring at the base of the light pole (above the chromed base that's fastened to the boat). Unscrew this ring (it will stay captive on the pole) and then wiggle/pull the pole out of the chromed base (there are locating/contact pins, so pull straight up as much as possible).

After you have the pole/light removed, the black plastic cap that's (likely) screwed to the helm area can be fastened to the chromed base on the cabin top to cover the open socket. There may be a pair of black, U-shaped friction brackets somewhere on the boat for stowing the pole/light (mine are on the port side V-berth overhead).

could it be corrosion on the contacts, either in the base mount, or the bulbs?
