Hello, my friends,
In January of 2005, we signed on for the first time here and announced that we had just purchased a CD 22 cruiser at the Baltimore Boat Show. In the intervening years, we've cruised and fished all of the Great Lakes, explored the Erie Canal, the Chesapeake, much of the eastern ICW, large portions of Florida and cruised and fished Lake Powell. Also, through our many projects and adventures I am amazed to discover that we have over 22,500 hits on our album!
We have also discovered that for extended live-aboard periods that we have just plain outgrown Valkyrie, especially with Belle and Boomer aboard. So, with that in mind, we have traded in Valkyrie at Mobile East Marine in NC for a brand new, blue CD 25, also to be named Valkyrie.
We are somewhat in shock at beginning the whole buying, rigging, commissioning procedure once again. I never imagined that I would be making long lists from the Defender Marine catalog another time, but we are doing just that.
Our boat will be equipped with a Yamaha 150 and Gene Wooster at Mobile East spent the better part of a day last week going over all of the new electronics that are a vast improvement on our eleven-year -old gear. It almost seems like our old Garmin chart plotter had a crank on the side compared to the new gear!
Taking our 22 down to NC and leaving her behind was as tough I suspected and reminiscent of watching Spirit, our Jeanneau sailboat which I owned for 18 years and spent two years cruising aboard be towed away.
Anyway, we are equally excited to be starting yet another chapter in our CD cruising life and plan on spending much more time aboard in the Keys in coming winters, with our loyal Airedale and Golden Retriever having much more room.
For anyone looking for an incredibly, well-equipped and maintained 22 cruiser, give Gene and Carrie a call at Mobile East. On Valkyrie we have faced waves to ten feet and near-hurricane force winds and half inch hail on Lake Erie. She'll take care of you, just do the same for her. She is a great boat and deserves it. BTW: I'm not completely objective!
Best regards,
Nick
