Announcing Valkyrie II!

Valkyrie

New member
Hello, my friends,

In January of 2005, we signed on for the first time here and announced that we had just purchased a CD 22 cruiser at the Baltimore Boat Show. In the intervening years, we've cruised and fished all of the Great Lakes, explored the Erie Canal, the Chesapeake, much of the eastern ICW, large portions of Florida and cruised and fished Lake Powell. Also, through our many projects and adventures I am amazed to discover that we have over 22,500 hits on our album!

We have also discovered that for extended live-aboard periods that we have just plain outgrown Valkyrie, especially with Belle and Boomer aboard. So, with that in mind, we have traded in Valkyrie at Mobile East Marine in NC for a brand new, blue CD 25, also to be named Valkyrie.

We are somewhat in shock at beginning the whole buying, rigging, commissioning procedure once again. I never imagined that I would be making long lists from the Defender Marine catalog another time, but we are doing just that.

Our boat will be equipped with a Yamaha 150 and Gene Wooster at Mobile East spent the better part of a day last week going over all of the new electronics that are a vast improvement on our eleven-year -old gear. It almost seems like our old Garmin chart plotter had a crank on the side compared to the new gear!

Taking our 22 down to NC and leaving her behind was as tough I suspected and reminiscent of watching Spirit, our Jeanneau sailboat which I owned for 18 years and spent two years cruising aboard be towed away.

Anyway, we are equally excited to be starting yet another chapter in our CD cruising life and plan on spending much more time aboard in the Keys in coming winters, with our loyal Airedale and Golden Retriever having much more room.

For anyone looking for an incredibly, well-equipped and maintained 22 cruiser, give Gene and Carrie a call at Mobile East. On Valkyrie we have faced waves to ten feet and near-hurricane force winds and half inch hail on Lake Erie. She'll take care of you, just do the same for her. She is a great boat and deserves it. BTW: I'm not completely objective!

Best regards,

Nick

Congratulations on your 25! You're going to love the room and headroom.
Let us know how you like that Yamaha 150 and give us a report on fuel usage, too.
Have fun!

This is fantastic! Congratulations, and thank you so much for sharing your adventures with us!

Congratulations, Nice! The 25 is a great boat - you should be good for the next 6.3 years. Where did I get that? Spirit: 18 years. Valkarie: 11 years. Just following the progression.

I wish you many years of exciting adventures with V-II. Oh, and enjoy all that extra room!

Best wishes,
Jim

That is great news and we wish you the best with your fresh boat!

It will be hard for us to give up Ari someday, but it will happen when we are ready to move aboard. Another boat to love....

Welcome to the 25 life. You'll love it! You made so many wonderful upgrades to Valkyrie I (flooring, portholes, etc.), and now you get to start all over. It's a never ending situation. Come to the Pacific Northwest. Great cruising here.

Hi Nick, Hi Marcia,
Best wishes and good job. Here I have been trying to convince myself that I am young enough to get an Airedale. Pretty sure that 25 can carry a big cooler. Maybe by fall you will be ready to fill it with fish?

Nick, congratulations to you two or should I say four. I can't imagine a long cruise on the CD22 with two large dogs even though you guys have made it work for a good period of time. The 25 should be great for you all & those looking for a outstanding well equipped & maintained CD22, here's your chance, so better act quick.

Congratulations Nick and Marcia on your new purchase! It's great to hear you're staying in the C-Dory family with a new 25' Cruiser.

Happy Boating!

WOW, Congrats on the new 25. What a great choice and neat way to start a new series of adventures. Looking forward to the continuation of great posts and fun pictures.

Hi all,

Thanks for all of the good wishes!

It's especially nice to hear from so many of us "old timers" who bought boats in the same time frame about ten years ago. It brings back so many Brats memories of posts, PM's, emails, phone calls and advice being shared in so many ways. Yep, this means you..Tyboo, Jim(s), Jay, Peter, Pat, Patty, Harvey, Mark and Robert.

Let's see, the process continues. The good folks at PlasTeak are only a few miles from us and we talked with them today about new flooring in both the cockpit and cabin. They have many new colors and patterns available and even offered to come to our home to make templates and then return to do an install in our driveway!

Mobile East is working hard tricking out our 25 and Gene is even having a local company fab-up a transom rail and cockpit filet/bait prep table....an idea which I am "appropriating" from Pat and Patty. The one on Valkyrie (22) is similar.

In response to an earlier question....I do not know where pricing is on our trade-in, but you can reach Gene and Carrie at Mobile East in NC at mobileeastmarine@gmail.com (be sure to have two e's) or 252-745-5615. They are great folks and Gene's attention to detail is phenominal. Over e years, he has made many of the mods to Valkyrie and is a great collaborator open to new ideas and projects.

I do know that Valkyrie has always garnered much attention and has been an source of pride for us. Valkyrie is a very unique 22 that looks better than new. A year ago I dropped her off at my buddy's body shop for compounding while we went on vacation for a couple weeks and was astounded by how great she looked on our return. Jaime thought that a full wet sanding would look great and he certainly was right, only charging for a compounding and not the 40 hours that his guys put into it. After that, I bought a full cover from Angola Canvas.

I'll keep you posted on how we are making the "new Valkyrie" our own.

Regards,

Nick

Hi Nick,

Just read your post; congratulations on your new boat. I was wondering when either you, Mark, or I would get a new boat as it has been many years since we first started
our friendships through the C-Brat site. Not sure about Mark getting a new boat but Marlene won't let me consider it. This is the 13th season for C-Batical and it is the longest period that I owned the same boat. May you enjoy your new boat as much, if not more, than your 22.

Best regards,
Rollie/C-Batical
