I was watching Landis win this morning and was thinking 'bout this today. Landis is the 3rd American to win the tour and that makes 11 wins in the last 20 years. Landis wins (once) and will soon go in for a hip replacement. Lance Armstrong wins 7 races in a row and this was all accomplished several years after brain and testicular surgery, and extensive chemotherapy in 1996, to treat testicular cancer that had metastasized to his brain and lungs. Prior to him the first American to race seriously in the tour Greg Lemond, won once while healthy and then twice two years after having been shot in the back with a shotgun, losing 30 pounds of muscle mass and rehabilitating himself.
So your saying, "Roger, what's your point?" . We send over cancer survivors, guys who've been recently shot and guys who need a hip replacement and we STILL kick the French bicyclists' a$$! Just think what would happen if we start sending over our healthy guys!
