I have been using one for the last couple of months and can't complain. The short amount of data in a text message means they get through pretty fast making the "chat so to speak seem like regular text service on your cell phone. We have used a spot that past 4 years and don't think we will renew it after using the InReach, it does the same thing on the tracking and SOS side, is more reliable in the far north, and the two way component. There are a couple of things they don't explain very well. First, someone can't just send you a text message at random. They can only respond to a text message that you have sent. Next you can send a text message from one InReach device to another, but they don't do a very good job of telling you how to do that. For those of you who have used Delorme software in the past (their topo map program for example), you have already encountered some of the oddities Delorme manages to put in documentation and software. So far my evaluation of it is :thup
