Any Lings?

I got skunked opening weekend but I took my neighbor out Saturday and I boated a 28" fish and he boated a 33" fish. He has been out with me once a year for the past 4-5 years and this was his first legal fish so he was a happy camper.

Good stuff, glad you guys are catching some. We are going out this week, wife and I planning on spending the first night on the boat Saturday if all goes well.

Is that why you're looking to stay in Tacoma? If you're going ling fishing, I presume you're going to be fishing under the Narrow's bridge. If so, launch at Pt. Defiance and overnight in Gig Harbor. Cool little town. You can find beer at the Tides Tavern or 7 Seas brewery; both a short walk from the city dock.

yup, yup, and yup. I will likely be picking a buddy up at pt defiance in the morning, but the wife and I are planning to overnight. Wanted to stay on the tacoma side, but Arabella's looks pretty nice. is that what you recommend? So far Pt Defiance looks like the only near place to launch and secure the tow right + trailer...?

We've never spent the night in Gig Harbor on the boat, but we've gone on several occasions for lunch and dinner. We've tied up at both the Tides Tavern and the city dock. Arabella's looks like a pretty nice little place, though.

We've spent the night at Tacoma's city dock; it was quiet and pleasant.

If you're fishing the Narrows on Saturday, it looks like the best times will be about 0630-0800, 1130-1300 and 1730-1900. Even though it's a minor tide in the morning, the current really gets rippin' through there.

If it was me, I'd probably launch early at Pt. Defiance, fish until about 1300-ish, and then run into Gig Harbor for a late lunch. Then I'd drop the buddy off at Pt Defiance and continue onto Tacoma city dock for the night. You could even take a break in the middle of the morning and stop in at Narrows Marina for a coffee and snack. There's a pretty new restaurant there called Boathouse 19, and it looks like they have a dock to tie up to.

Lots o' options.

thanks for the advice, good ideas to create a nice itinerary actually. Looking at Narrows Marina, it looks like they have transient moorage and a launch, so I may give them a call as well.
