anyone ever use this system?

You are absolutely correct on cleating off the a stearn cleat. A very poor idea if the line goes from the cleat over the side and down to the anchor.
If you read my procedure your will see that the line that is tied to the stearn cleat goes forward around the cabin, through the trunk cabin cleat and over THE BOW ROLLER.
Any pull or strain on the anchor line is only transferred through the bow roller.
Thanks for bringing up that point. Pulling anything over the stearn is a death wish by drowning.

when we do anchor we will be paying out all 300' that we have so this system will work good. I understand the not pulling from the stern to retrieve anchor and that the pressure is going to be on the bow due to pre running it.

so I guess my only question i have left is once ready to pull anchor should one go up through the cuddy hatch and cleat off up there or is it ok to to leave like it is since the pressure is on the bow already and just run up and away from anchor to retrieve? will be testing in shallow water this weekend prior to fishing just was curious.

Jake,

No need to re-cleat it anywhere else. Just leave it like you put it out. Pull it with the boat/buoy and snag the line (I use a gaff) from the rear deck and pull it into the tub or can.
It sounds complicated but it is really not.

Good luck

Jack

so not trying to beat a dead horse. but I rigged up the anchor for tomorrow and wanted to make sure I have it right. as when I pull on the anchor end it does seem like the rode rubs up the cuddy area. it is hitched off on the port stern cleat.
here is a pic

Jake,

That looks good. I would have put the line through the cleat from the std.side to help reduce any more friction when pulling the line in. You could also put a few pillow blocks on the side of the cabin to prevent chaffing on the cabin. I never did that and the cabin looks fine.

Happy Memorial Day.

Jack

thanks Jack I appreciate it however light tides and low wind we were able to drift straight up and down under 1mph so we did not anchor, may give it a try next weekend. I don't think I will worry about cabin and will re run the line.
happy memorial day.
