Had a 15 pitch 4 blade on my 130hp honda, 21 Arima, and sacrificed top speed for torque. Really liked that prop on my last boat. My usual cruise was 4200 rpm at 20 knots (23 mph)

Still getting to know my new boat.
On my 22 cruiser Yamaha 90 4str I have tried the 13 x17 alum 3 blade and the 13 1/2 x 15 - 3 blade aluminum. Just seems alot of slippage (lacking power).

Anyone one used a 4 blade? better holeshot? What do you think compared to 3 blade? I think I could sacrifice top speed as with this boat it seems you can only run fast when it is really calm or it is just to rough and noisy.

we have the c-23 venture (cape cruiser) with a f-115 yamaha the boat weighs 3000lb plus eng and batteries and assorted boat stuff 3700-4000lb total plus passengers

So I wanted more torgue I tried a S/S 14 by 13pitch 4blade it was fine for cruising but around idle speed it did not want to go into gear (dog clutch ) problem?? the prop shop said they had some problems with the yamaha 75-f115 family of engines to much weight for the 4 blade S/S prop .anyway changed to a 3 blade S/S 14by 15pitch no problems with idle or running gets 32mph at 5500rpm also about 4mpg cruising and if we slow down idle speed and 16-18 mph cruise we have gotten over 5mpg

So all in all we are happy with the performance of this prop and engine combo alum is much lighter prop so you probably will not have that problem

We sold a used 22 Cruiser with a Fuel Injected 90 Honda on it that had a 4 blade prop. We were not impressed with the package. I don't know if it was the prop or the engine, but the engine just didn't seem to want to run at the rpm I thought it should cruise at (4000 - 4500).

Here's a thread form a while back, discussing 4 bladed props on 22's.

I'm using a Comprop 4 x 13.5 x 15 on my BF90 (non-injected), and love it performance-wise. Much smoother and better hole shot than the three blade props I tried.

Pretty cheap, last time I checked - got mine at Cabelas.

We use a Honda 4 blade 13 inch diameter 15 inch pitch prop on our 22 footer. I feel it is the perfect prop for our use. We can get about 5,800 rpm out of the carburetted engine at WOT, which is about right, and top speed is around 30-31 mph. We average about 4 mpg, and are usually loaded for multiple days out, so heavy but only two people on board, so not as heavy as some. We also carry a small inflatable dinghy on top, so have more wind resistance than some. The prop moves from idle to planing with no discernable transition, and is smooth at all speeds with no single speed or rpm for comfort. All speeds and rpm seem good.

Thought I'd bring this thread back alive again. I have a 2007 C-dory 22 Cruiser, with the Mercury 115 hp 4 stroke. Right now I'm running an aluminum 3 blade 14x13 prop, that gives me the correct WOT setting of about 5700 RPM. I'm thinking about going to a 4 blade, and was told to come down one on the pitch. Ie, go to a 14x12. Anyone else recently switch from a 3 blade to a 4 blade, and was it worth it? I'm happy with the prop I'm using, so hate to change unless it has an advantage. I do however want to get a spare prop, so need to buy another one anyway.

Also, the current prop I have is the Mercury with the Torq Flo II hub system. Is it wise to carry a spare hub, or is it more likely the aluminum blade will break off before spinning the hub? Colby
