Rosanne, an RN in the NICU is back at work since the Hontoon gathering. Changes going on daily for the staff. On her days off, we see a lot more of each other. :shock: A little over a week ago I did my part to keep the economy moving and traded in my high mileage 2016 F150 for a brand new 2019 F150. Still plain in the cosmetic department, but came with the Ford Tow Package, a locking rearend and a backup camera. And Ford is going with a 10 speed tranny now. Still breaking it in before I hook Midnight Flyer up to it. Midnight Flyer is tucked back into the back yard, but I did make a nice step for the cockpit, patterned from the Clow's boat. The search for a 25 is on hold now. Can't really travel far, and two brokered boats I've had an interest in are likely shut down as I have not been able to reach them. We were planning a trip to Branson and Silver Dollar City very end of this month, for the first two weeks in May, but looks like that's going to be off. This afternoon I'm working as Chief Election Inspector at the elections here in Wisconsin, a real cluster**** at this point. I know we've made the national news. We're not as messed up here in our town of 12,000 with 8,000 registered voters, but Madison and Milwaukee, along with some other large cities, will be a mess with many not able to vote. Ok, sorry, getting political again, so I'll just stop here. How is Marie doing?

I do agree, everyone should vote! But don't get me started on that right now. I'm a Chief Election Inspector here in Wisconsin, and lets just say I am seriously biting my tongue right now! Interesting you say how let people decide how the president did, or who they'd like to elect. Unfortunately that didn't work out so well last time and we now have a minority elected president. I suggest the polls are probably more accurate than some would like to admit. As for individual states having to stockpile their own stuff. Yes, probably a good idea under the current administration. What exactly do we have a federal government for again?

Are we still talking about toilet paper shortages? As a rural American who takes care of his own post defacation cleansing, I gotta say I prefer the 2 ply to that single ply government paper. Also: WHOA MAN. A little Western civility please. Rudeness is unnecessary here
 
This has been a difficult time, with Marie in the Hospital and not being able to see her. She is scheduled to come home today with a PICC line (this is a long term intravenous line into the subclavian vein or superior Vena Cava. It is complicated by the fact she has had a pacemaker for about 40 years, and the right arm is where the infection is.) She can move her right hand now--but not fully. She will be on IV antibiotics for at least 2 weeks. Hopefully supplies, etc all arrive in time for the 4PM dose--and she is home by then.

She has been seen daily--sometimes 2 x daily by a hand surgeon and an infectious disease specialist, as well as the hospitalist. She is on kidney toxic antibiotics so that blood levels have to be drawn 3x per week just prior to the dose of one of the drugs. (Not sure it helps that my speciality was Nephrology--dialysis and kidney disease, as well as Internal Medicine.).

We are well supplied with food, etc. but do have to go out for medications. Never have figured out why the pharmacy cannot get all of the Rx on one day, instead of 10 or so different times....!! The pharmacy had a big sign on the door:

. There were bare shelves for many common cold type of medications. Finally all workers are masked and wearing gloves. Distancing is practiced by about 50% of the people who walk in--some don't have a clue.

Marie had me order a sign which says "Due to the increased cost of ammo, no warning shot will be fired". She wants that on the front door....We had seen that on one of the boats on the St. John's river.

The conclusion is that the infection may have come from the river water? But it was 10 days from the time she was swimming Salt Springs until she called the small red area on her right ring finger, to my attention...It is a bacteria resistant to most antibiotics.

Glad to hear Marie is doing better and about to come home. And prayers that she completely heals up soon. Wonder if anyone else swimming caught anything. I wasn't in the water very long, but haven't had any problems.
The sign about the ammo is a good one. I first saw it on that houseboat. My personal opinion is, anyone that packs heat needs to be ready and able to actually use it. Warning shots are liable to just get the shooter shot.
As for the comments a few posts back, I'm glad to see as C-Brats, we can still calm down quickly and make light of it. FWIW, I have pretty thick skin and I have no or saw no hard feelings in a very brief PM conversation with tsturm. Sometimes it helps to let some steam off, and right now, there is a lot of steam out there! Stay Safe!

I don't have to work to hard to not get too political. Mostly not into that type of "bickering". So far, I have not dis-enjoyed the discussion but do wince at pointed barbs. AS long as there are no bottles, cups, stones or bullets flying I guess things aren't too bad. Not meaning to be crude, morbid or disrespectful, but the corona virus has been a huge relief from all the political bickering, the fake news stuff, and impeachment jabber. We actually saw the House and Senate both in bipartisan form, working together, rapidly, for once, for a common good to our country. WOW.

My total political statement for this month. I may not be the most acute political observer, but I vote, for who I think is the best person for the office and so I can legitimately complain about our political situation.

Glad to hear Marie is on the mend and getting out of the hospital. Prayers for her continued healing.

Getting back on topic:
Not throwing anything harder than Kleenex here, and saving my ammunition for a real emergency and the TP for measured disbursement.

Interesting discussion...my brother in law rented a ranch to run his cattle on, 15,000 acres, the owner was also recieving $30,000 a year NOT TO GROW WHEAT! The inside joke was that it hadn't been grown there for years because the land ended up being unsuitable. I am country born and bred and no great fan of government mismanagement but it is not only city dwellers on welfare, at least the city dweller welfare recipients aren't driving new Cadillacs!
An while I am on that subject, California, my native state that is often maligned by midwestern and rural state conservatives has been a model of flattening the Corona virus curve through our government preparedness and early action, we have even been able to share our hundreds of excess ventalators with other states, some of which are in the midwest. Also donating are the disparaged "left coast liberal" states of Oregon and Washington.
I am surprised in this time, when, in a time of national crisis when the country should be focused on solutions and pulling together as one nation, putting our differences aside, here on this forum vituperative comments that drive people father apart continue. I rarely check C-brats now as it has become less civil, worse than watching chic-flicks while sheltering in place at home with Dana!

Bob I am glad to hear that Marie is home and doing better, Dana and I both wish you two the best.

I should have known better to get involved in politics on this site and wanted to apologize for any of my statements that upset or offended anyone.
We all have our opinions about how things are going or should go but IMO they should be kept to ourselves or on another site.
Bottom line is we all need to stay safe and help each other when we can so we will be able go out and enjoy our boats,family and friends after we get the all clear.
Hope everyone is healthy and Bob my thoughts are with you and your wife.

Marie is finally home--not totally cured or well. We give 4 IV infusions of antibiotics a day. RN didn't get thru will all of instruction etc until about 11 PM last night, up early to get her set up for 6 AM infusion.

The people who delivered the infusion supplies called about 10 minutes before the supplies were to be delivered and said he would be an hour late. Called the service, and they had all kinds of varying excuses....Basically I had the impression that they didn't care. (National chain--don't accept what Medicare and my insurance allow--we have to pay the extra.--that is against Medicare policy, but I won't be involved in a fight with them.) Of course the Nurse had to completely redo her schedule, and come at 7 PM. That has a domino effect, because blood has to be drawn 1 to 2 hours before the next dose of one drug--and puts it outside of "normal working hours" of the nursing service. We are working on that one...Thank God for the wonderful RN's and other medical personal who work way beyond what is expected because they love what they do and love people!!!

We all (Including Angel) were very very happy to see her! Now I have to figure out how to keep her "down" to rest....even though she cannot use her right hand/arm...

Good to hear that Dr. and Mrs. Austin are both safe at home. She will get through it fine, I am sure. She has pretty good in-home care!
