arima or c dory

newbie

New member
Im sure this has been discussed before, but, could some of you post a couple of comments about the ride, quality, reliability, and anything else you know about arima and c dory. I want to fish and do some boat camping. how would you compare the two? thanks

newbie - welcome to the C-Brats, and has already been suggested, use the search feature. You'll also notice the "autolink" we have set up for Arima - every time the word is typed here, it's turned into a link over to the Arima MSN group. Compare and contrast with the C-Dory here all you like, but if you have detailed questions specific to Arima, their user group is probably better equipped to answer them.

I think most people would say the Arima is much more of a pure fishing vessel and that the closest C-Dory would be the angler. Cruiser C-Dorys are, as the name implies, more set up for cruising. I guess I prefer a boat that I can fish from that is comfortable for cruising more than a boat that is a great fisher but really lacks (by comparison) for cruising. YMMV

why is "a-r-i-m-a" in hyperlink text in both the message title & in the thread? Clicking it from the main menu takes you to their user group rather than the thread..

I was wondering that myself. It makes it hard to get here and I would bet most members do not know how to access this thread. I would just as soon A.rima was not hyperlinked.

Hello people. Sorry if I brought up the wrong subject and didnt notice the search icon before I posted. I assure you my inquiry was genuine. I am not now nor have I ever been a spy/mole for a boat company. Im looking at a 22 angler tomorrow.. sincerely 007

It was an idea of mine, to gently redirect common brand specific questions to more appropriate resources - specifically, user groups where the boats in question are the primary topic. The same thing was done at one time for Cape Cruiser, pointing that term over to RF's place. These automatic links were setup quite a while back, and announced in the forums.

Since the typical response to this well-intentioned change has always been "what a crappy idea", I just blasted them.

The above is what I was referring too. Usually when admin makes a change they post a little note at the bottom, so I assumed (there it is again) that this was just a way to get people straight to another site.

Welcome newbie.

Hello Newbie:

We recently purchased a 21' Arima Explorer, which has similar amenities to the CD22 Cruiser. We shopped both boats extensively, and I would be happy to share my thoughts with you. I've stayed a C-Brats member, though in the background, because it is a great group of people, and the site has a wonderful repository of information for anyone with a small outboard cruising vessel.

Sorry for jumping all over you, Beer Dude - I didn't catch the relationship between the automatic links, and your comments suggesting the post was suspicious. In retrospect, I can certainly see why the automatic links made the post look suspicious, which is yet another reason to remove them...

I also didn't catch the fact, that the autolink applied to thread titles...having somebody click on a thread title here, only to be redirected elsewhere, was bad news. I missed this little tidbit, as I never click on thread titles - I always click on the "take me to the latest post" icon (

), so I didn't notice that undesirable behavior.

Nerd apologies to all...

Both are reliable boats. However the Arima is geared more for fishing. The hardtop model is not tall enough for most people to stand up in. In my opinion the c-dory excells in extended/overnight stays than the Arima. I do plenty of fishing out of my 22' but in all honesty it's not ideal for more than 2 or 3 people fishing. As you know, there's no perfect boat. Make a list of what's important and see which one most closely fits your needs.

I have to agree with flapbreaker.
I've fished a lot out of a 17' Arima, when I decided to buy my boat, I was looking at the Arima 21' hardtop. Then the Admiral saw the C-dory and the rest is history. I like the Arima, they are great boats, but I also love my C-dory.
I'm more for fishing, but PJ is more for cruising- so I bought what would suit us both, CD-22.

Our previous boat is an Arima 17SC (Bob). An excellent boat for fishing and day trips. Not so good for overnight expeditions. We still have it, and it gets used a couple of times a year for some serious fishing expeditions. We have had 4 adults and 700 lbs of fish in it a couple of times. It gets a little sluggish when that happens.

The TomCat gets a lot more use - very few day trips, but lots of extended ventures and overnight stays out on the water.
