August 2 to 8 - 14th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure

Well, here's a picture of Two Harbours at the Catalina Isthmus. The string line is within the black rectangle in the middle of the pic. The bluff blocks most of it, but you can see a couple of C-Brats. The picture comes from the Two Harbours camera. That dark line at the top is Palos Verde on the mainland.

Thisaway left a day early, to have some time with my grandchildren, as their parents were moving out of their home. They are leaving to live in London for two years on Monday, so this was a last time for solo time with the grandkids.

We had a great time, and again want to thank Jim and Kath on Pounder for both the organization and the wonder Fillet Mignon's on Monday night! It ended up that we didn't eat any of the food we brought for ourselves! Soo much great food food on Monday, another group of young folks ate what we had left over! Even then there was enough from all for another pot luck on Thursday night, with fresh fish provided by John, Robin and Heinz! Nothing better than fresh fish!

Tuesday we had dinner with the crews of Sea3PO and Lighthouse Express at Doug's reef. Wednesday, we prevailed on the crew of the cafe after hours, to sell us a couple of salads which were our dinner!

Lots of great walks, and fun visiting old friends, as well as making new ones!

David, Donald, and Eric did make it to the Island for a couple of days, without a boat. (Staying at Banning Lodge) Unfortunately Donald had to be medevaced to Torrance Memorial Hospital by chopper, and last I heard was in satisfactory condition.

We had a bit of chop about the last 1/3 of the trip home, and then a delay as Anaheim Landing Naval Weapons (Seal Beach--Huntington Harbor) was closed due to transit of a warship. Friday night we both collapsed at about 5 PM, and didn't wake up until about 9:30PM.

Photos to follow shortly!

Thanks again to all who made this a great adventure--see you at Powell!

Even though Eiko and I were only able to stay for the Potluck on Monday it was really great to see everyone and to meet some new faces. This trip will definitely will become a Far C'r tradition and lucky for us it is right on our doorstep.

I put together a You Tube video of the trip from our perspective. This time not a 2 hour extravaganza :)

Thanks again to Jim and Kathy and everyone else that had a part in putting this together we feel amazed to be a part of something this Kool!

Thanks to all who attended this years's 14th Annual Island Party. Really special thanks to everyone, as noted below.

Floyd and Eiko, special thanks for the nice Catalina trip video. It is well edited and presented.

John and Robbin and Heinz, special thanks for the fish fry on Thursday night. What a treat having the fresh fish.

Dr. Bob and Marie, special thanks for coming all the way from Florida and Bob's expert intervention help with Eric. Marie, we really enjoyed the fresh corn that you provided.

David and Donald special thanks for your extraordinary effort to attend without a boat and stay at the Banning House.

Heinz and Diane special thanks for all those home made tamales, they were to die for.

Joel and Susan special thanks for the ice cream social on Wednesday night. That was a new and welcome addition to our agenda.

Pedro and Eileen special thanks for making the effort to come under difficult personal circumstances and for the two gigantic dinner salads.

Kent and Marcia special thanks for again making the effort to come and for all the nice snacks and dips.

God willing, hopefully next year we can have our 15th Year Blow-Out party at Two Harbors. Who would have thought that his event would have gone on for so long? Even the 24 year olds on the beach wanted to know how we 60, 70, and 80 year olds were having such a good time after they sailed over for their own party.

See you all next year!

Jim & Kath

Just a quick "Hi" to some of the nicest people we know!

Sounds like a great time. Thanks Floyd and Elko for posting the video, it has truly inspired Laurie and I to take some time off and head on down to La la land... then go off shore! The water looked nice, clear and blue... wow! Made me only a little mad that I was stuck up here in the windy, grey Bay Area. We certainly hope there is a 15th Anniversary Catalina Off Shore Cruise as I will make a strong effort to step away from work. Maybe we will see some of you a bit sooner in the Spring.... hint, not so subtle hint Jim. All the best. John and Laurie
