There are quite a few guys where I work that are headed for buoy ten in the next few days. Someone said this is the lure that is really hot. Apparently all the stores in the salem area are sold out. Red and white.

Hi Lloyd,

A Bob Toman spinner. Yep, Red/white they say altho in the ocean Sat off the CR it didn't seem 'hot'...:thdown

Mark

That color wasn't hot today in the river, either. Three of us on the boat, two fish in the box, and one broke the leader. I towed a red/white almost all day. I swapped between the one Lynn Marie Tim made for me and the one CatyMae Caty and Steve bought and gave to me. Nothing. My dad drowned bait and got no interest. The three fish were hooked on some other color Brad's spinner that the third guy was using.

The two fish in the box were nice ones. Too bad they were so few and took so long to get. We did get to see Uncle Ritchie on C-Critter out there, though. That was cool.

By the way - if you are looking for the Brad's spinners, Bob's in Longview has them. The only other place I know for sure to find one is in some big salmon's mouth somewhere in the Columbia River, and it will even have a swivel and leader attached.

Found fishing to be poor yesterday so hauled the boat home and called it a season. What a strange season it was, lumpy ocean, hit and miss fishing, we had some good days and some poor days.
I'm kind of bummed in that I was hoping to get some fish stored away (did that) and the fishing to heat up before I started inviting folks out, but, the fishing never really heated up to where I felt comfortable having somebody spend a bunch of gas $$ to come down for spotty fishing.
maybe next year, next year we'll hammer um

I ran into the new owner of Cygnet the other day, that sure is a nice boat, the owner seems like a good chap also

Chinook fishing is closed in the ocean off the CR because B~C caught too many. Inside the river, one chinook is still allowed because I can't catch nothin' and can't afford the gas to get to the ocean.

Chinook retention prohibited starting Friday north of Cape Falcon

CLACKAMAS – State and federal fishery managers today decided to prohibit the retention of chinook starting Friday, Sept. 9, in the ocean recreational fishery from Cape Falcon near Manzanita, Oregon north to Leadbetter Point in Washington.

Today’s action was taken because chinook catches in the ocean off the mouth of the Columbia River have been higher than expected and managers wanted to maintain angling opportunity for adipose fin-clipped coho. As of Sept. 5, biologists report that 40,000 of the 43,250 chinook quota have been taken by recreational anglers north of Cape Falcon.

The season remains open seven days per week. The daily bag limit is two salmon, but all chinook must be released carefully and unharmed. All retained coho must have a healed adipose fin-clip and be a minimum of 16 inches long.

Managers will meet again Tuesday, Sept. 13, via teleconference to determine how long the fishery can remain open for adipose fin-clipped coho.

Additional information on ocean salmon fishing regulations may be obtained in the 2005 Oregon Ocean Salmon and Halibut Sport Fishing Regulations. The green pamphlet is available at license agents and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife offices. Information also is posted to the ODFW Web site at: http://www.dfw.state.or.us/MRP/salmon/.

HEY! don't go a blamin me for hogging the fish, that Coop's Cruiser boat passed me one day HEAVILY loaded down, he's the guilty one

B~C - you better can the upriver fishing and go for one or two more ocean shots. Tomorrow is forecast 4' at 17 seconds. You won't catch no fish, but it could be the best ocean of the summer. Time's good too, out at 7:00 and back in about 1:00

Now that's a bunch of hooey, B~C. You'll use less gas towing to the coast and fishing the mighty Pacific than you would have used towing to and cruising from Kalama to Beacon Rock, yet you were wanting to do that. I think you are becoming trailerphobic.

Just joshing. Don't blame you a bit.

Now then, next year are we going to give them halibut a try? I think we're ready. Tuna is still a couple years out for me, but I think some fish-n-chips would be worth a shot. I bet we can talk old Greybeard into it.

Halibut might be fun, if'n I was running out the Columbia for tuna I think I would want either a bigger boat, or, a faster boat. Anyhoots, it's looking like my Ilwaco fishing days are going to severely limited in the future. It's a pretty sure bet that I'll be bunking in Ketchikan for the next bunch of summers and driving somebody elses boat.

Well, I believe this was my first time ever getting skunked in the ocean. Unless you want to count the two times we got hung up on crab pot lines as catching something. Left the rigging with one of them. I told the DFW fish checker that was all we caught, and he said there shouldn't have been any pots outside because the ocean is closed for crab. Wish I had known that, and I would have got my rigging back at the expense of the guy's rope, if necessary.

The water was nice. It was surprisingly choppy for the first couple hours, but was flat by the time we headed in just before high tide.

I think next summer I'll just go to Ketchikan and bum a ride with B~C on the Red Fox.

The boat is on the trailer. That's it, we're going to Sequim.

Uncle Ritchie - I sent you a PM a long time ago, but it is still in the Outbox. Hey, that's OK - a lot of people don't do PMs. Anyhow, this is what it says:

Did you catch any fish in that damn river? We have only caught 19 for the boat this year, and all but 5 of them were in the ocean.

It was cool finally seeing you down here after all the times I missed you.

B~C - There were only a handful of boats out there fishing Saturday. I think today was a nicer ocean, but I didn't go. Next year while you're up by Russia driving Chivita, there will be lots of fish down here.

I hope there is a bunch of fish down here. I hope this isn't just the start of a downward trend, kind of a goofy year, no smelt, salmon fishing was spotty....HEY, lets go up to Sequim and catch a bunch of salmon to fill up the freezer

Hi Mike,
Only caught three fish at bouy 10 this year but only went down twice and the first time I was way early. Hope to make the Sequim thing this year. Wife is gone on trip so have lots of free time.
