Battery Switch ??

I have a Honda 150, 2 batteries, and a Guest selector switch. The switch has 2 small terminals, that according to Guest wiring diagram, should each have a field wire from the alternator connected. Mine only has one wire - but everything seems to work fine. Should I fix it till it is broke ?
 
I thought it depends on the alternator type and might need to use an isolator
 
The battery acts as a buffer for the alternator. If the engine is running and you turn the switch to "OFF" the batteries are disconnected from the alternator output, and somethings gotta give. Removing the field excitation shuts the alternator off so there's nothing to give.


Outboards typically do not bring the alternator excitation (field) lead out so you can't disconnect it. Therefore DO NOT EVER SWITCH THE BATTERY SWITCH TO OFF WHEN THE MOTOR(S) ARE RUNNING.

Yamaha also suggests not to switch from battery1 to battery 2 while engine is running .Always turn eng. off before switching . Don't ask me how I know .
 
Still don't understand the single wire on my installation. But it is what it is.
 
If you can take a picture that would help. My guest switch is wired to two batteries I have one wire coming from engine then two wires leading out to the house battery and starter battery . If you look close you might have the same setup ? Is your Guest switch 1or 2 or both or off then it should or could be wired this way ? PIctures ,Pictures
 
I have 2 battery switches and none have the alternator protection feature. I just have a circle using a China wax marker around OFF position to be careful using it when the motor is running.
 
Sorry no pictures - don't know how - AND the job is finished. But mine is wired as shown on the wiring diagram referenced above for single engine, 2 batteries. Except only one wire on the small terminals.
