Bellingham Chart Printers

Hi Everybody,

Dara and I are leaving California June 8th. After a quick stop for our nieces graduation in Oregon we plan to arrive in Bellingham on June 10th.

We have approximately 6 1/2 weeks of float time this summer and we intend to spend the first half exploring the Desolation sound/Discovery Islands area before heading back towards the Gulf Islands to meet my father in-law mid July. (Sadly due to our schedule we will miss all the gatherings).

I made the mistake of ordering chart books 3312 and 3313 from Bellingham Chart Printers on April 8th. After three weeks of waiting I asked Dara to check our credit card to confirm we were billed for the order. Sure enough we were promptly billed on April 9th. The Bellingham Chart printers phone number and and the parent company Tides End in Tampa, Florida have both been disconnected. We have also tried email to no avail.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for ordering these chart books?

We are very excited to explore Canadian waters this summer and I've been pouring over Best Anchorages of the inside Passage, Waggoner's, and Ports and Passes.

Thank you,

Jim

Jim,
Sorry to hear of your troubles with Bellingham Chart Printers. I can't really be of much help on where to buy charts stateside, other than to say West Marine used to carry paper charts. I don't know if that has changed.
You would be welcome to borrow our chart books of Desolation Sound and of the Gulf Islands. Seeing as you plan for Desolation before the Gulf Islands and Powell River is on the way there it may work. You would need some charts to get to PR though. The chart books are quite large so sending them by mail would be pricey.
Let me know if that would help.
In the mean time maybe someone else has other suggestions.
Cheers
Ron

On our last trip we just used the Evergreen Pacific Exploring Alaska and British Columbia, and the Fine Edge Guides (Douglas). We have also been using the I pad with Navionics as Pat suggested.

Our first trips to AK, (before chart plotters), we were able to get a complete last years set of charts from a tug boat skipper for the cost of air freight. There were over 200 charts, but that vessel had a good size navigation table, and room to store the charts in folders.

Somewhere along the way, we did get a copy of one of the black and white Bellingham charts--and then colored it yellow for land mass, and outlined the hazards.

Be sure and have Active Captain on your i pad!

I've been away from the internet for a week or so. Thank you for the replies and advice

Ron - Thank you for your very kind offer.

Pat - We are going to go the tablet route to compliment our C-80 and handheld garmin (for back up).

Thataway - Thank you for the reminder on active captain.

Cheers,

Jim
