Well, I took the plunge. After seeing what Mike on Gypsy had done (thanks, Mike!) it was clear I needed to get out the Dremel and let 'er rip.
It really makes getting in and out of the berth a lot easier and increases airflow. I trimmed out the edges with oak, made a bracket to support the shelf that the bulkhead used to support. Still a few things to tidy up, but here's a pic. More in our "Projects" album.

Rick, Nice looking job. Fully understand your points on entry and air flow. This is one thing I like about my Classic and wonder if closing that up was that much of a step forward when it was changed. Hope to meet you down on Lake Martin some time.
If you ever come up to cruise the Tenn. River look me up. We live on the river so would be glad to have you stop by for a visit. We have extra room and a place to tie the boat.

I am wondering why you didn't round that sharp corner though?

Good job. I've been considering the same modification. Question - can you comfortably sit forward facing on the port seat and have your legs hang into the v-berth? E.g. if you modify the table/cushion arrangement so you have a back rest, would it be too uncomfortable to have your legs in the v-berth?
 
Nice work, great idea, Could you tell me what is the cover you have under the bunk? Looks like a nice touch to cover up the PP, or have you moved it? michael
 
That sure opens things up nicely. :thup Getting in and out of the V-berth must be easier. What have you done to support the backrest cushion when facing aft at the dinette?
