Love that picture PAT! Do you have mice that live in there? That thing even looks like it might work!

Charlie

Ha ha - let's be sure to let prospective owners know that Patrick's picture of his VHF setup was NOT that of a C-Dory helm! (At least I hope not  )

So, what would you give if THATAWAY Bob worked at Best Buy a couple days a week as a "show it to the kid that can crawl around" advisor and give nice talks at an open house a few nights a month. Hummm

Well, Pat, that does put a whole new perspective on things, doesn't it? Damn, those monkeys are kinda uncomfortable feeling. I've always thought of myself as a "glass half full" kinda guy, but getting Dr. Bob as an adviser is pure genius! :thup With all the wiz-bang stuff Best Buy deals in, do they have some means of cloning our favorite boat doc so that each store gets him?

So, short of your solution, I'll buy CDs at Best Buy and boat stuff from the boat stuff folks. But, you have given me something to consider.

Best wishes,
Jim

I would strongly suspect that this is geared toward small trailerable inland boats, bass boats and the pontoon crowd that wants stereos. I don't see them doing complicated stuff on boats subjected to a true, salt water marine environment. This may be quite the service for folks inland and away from an area with a big boating community and support infrastructure.

Garmin GPSMAP441S w/ dual frequency transducer at Best Buy: $699.99. At CommercialCaptains.com (Cpt Matt): $566.99.

Many thanks for the kind words Matt!

One slight correction - the price for the 441S /dual freq. transducer is $529.70 shipped to lower 48 if pay via credit card through PayPal or $514.68 via bank check. (Had to double check myself!)

I dont know
When they installed my car stereos, most of the installation was R&R. The cost was less than my time and 2 guys were working

Turnaround time is factor to me
If I haul my boat to a dealer or Best Buy for a GPS/Chart, how long will it take. However, I dont have a trailer so either I install or locate a mobile service person

Perhaps Lizzie can help...

The "tooth fairy" can also do cloning? Or, were you just looking for any excuse to post a picture of your cute little granddaughter? :D

Best wishes,

Well best buy or any other box store is all about the price. I buy stuff I know and install myself. Same thing for west marine. I seldom get any good advice from them. The real problem is that there is so much on the market that you would be hard pressed to find a person that knows how to operate , let alone install, all brands of marine electronics. I learn as much as I can on line and buy where ever it is cheapest or easiest, or both.

I have always felt that marine wiring must be left to the new guy in any boat builders shop. I have never seen it done right unless the owners of the boat did it him self.

In today's world just how hard is it to install this stuff. its becoming more plug and play everyday.

when I bought the Susan e I had Les and crew install it for me because is was part of the purchase and there by easy and cheap. As a bonus they did a good job. Now I have had to rewire or replace several units in the total package due to malfunction or thief in the last few years. Is very easy to do as long as you think before you cut screw glue weld or other wise install. One day I will rewire the whole boat to my standards ( or my dads). as I said no boat is wired very well.
