Saw this on the C-Dog site. Thought that folks might be interested.

For anyone considering this boat, it might be very advisable to consult the owner of Haleigh's Comet about the longhouse design (which had a OMC Sea Drive which Les at E.Q. replaced with a new custom bracket and a 225 hp Honda), and the owner of the 27 ft Pilothouse sold last year which had a similar if not identical Volvo inboard/outdrive set up at the time of sale. Might be a wealth of information available there about the advantages/limitations of this design and power combination. Joe.

The Volvo AQ-175 with 280 stern drive is a 170 hp V-6 (gasoline) engine, which I think should be pretty good power for a 27 if it is in good shape. Here is a link to technical specifications on older Volvo-penta engines: http://www.volvo.com/volvopenta/na/en-u ... terndrive/

The 27 Pilothouse that I own has an AQ 151 with 250 stern drive. The 151 is a 4-cylinder engine rated at 146 hp, which many might find underpowered (it cruises at about 16 mph). I don't find it a problem, but it sure wouldn't keep up with Halleigh's Comet (or with most other C-Dory’s). I'm not sure I'd want 225 hp like Halleigh's Comet, but if I ever need to repower, I might think about a pair of 90s, or something in that range on a bracket. Although my pilothouse model is a bit unique, I think the 27s are great boats, and at $18,000 it sounds like a good deal even if you need to repower.
