Bimini for 22’ Cruiser 1997

Hello All!

We have an older 22’ Cruiser and are in search of a Bimini top/enclosure. Wondering if anyone has one they aren’t using that they would be interested in selling or if you’ve got someone who made you a really good one that you would recommend.

There is a lot of difference in cost between a Bimini top and a full canvas / screen enclosure. You can get good Bimini's made for less than $600. A good enclosure even for a 22 is going to cost in the $ 6,000 minimum price range. This time of the year canvas shops are getting busy. It may take several months to have it built. There are several sail makers and boat canvas shops near Santa Cruz, Ca. which should work well for you. Some sail lofts make Bimini tops. Call Ulman Sails (local Santa Cruz loft) or if there is another local sailmaker and see if they make new Bimini tops and enclosures--if not, who do they recommend?

Fitting is key with an enclosure, much more so than a free standing or even a Bimini which attaches to the aft top of the pilothouse roof. You want someone who comes out to measure and assures of a perfect fit. A Bimini is one of the mid level of expertise canvas projects on a boat. I have made Dodgers, Bimini tops, and enclosures...but have also done sewing at a sail loft to help friends out in busy times. Plus I have the tools to work fabrics. Sailrite has the DIY kits for frames, and Bimini canvas. They have the materials and tools for the enclosure, if you want to take that on.

I prefer to have a professional visit your boat and take measurements before he makes the frame and canvas. I had one Bimini where it allowed the bottom to slide forward on rails to fit against the aft pilothouse and the cockpit clear for fishing.
