Have used two pair of Alpen apex 8x42's for 8 years primarily used for birding, but work well aboard. Bright & sharp glass. No issues with either pair do date. Primary boat glass is Steiner 7x50, 10+ years and still doing a great job. Picked up a pair of Nikon action extreme ATB 10x50's, primarily for back yard astronomy WOW are they bright, beat the Steiner's side by side.
