Boat Measurements Needed

Hi, folks. I'm looking at setting up a carport/shelter for Honu and want to make sure it's tall and wide enough. The boat's not on the trailer now, so I can't measure it myself.

Does anyone have handy the height and width measurements of the 22 when it's on the trailer? I also have a short radar arch with rocket launchers, but I can always go and measure that separately. Here's a picture of the boat and trailer; it's a 2008 Cruiser. Thanks in advance for your information!

My 22 cruiser, C-Spirit on an EZ Loader trailer with rollers (not bunks) measured last summer was 8' 9" on the trailer. That was from ground to top of cabin.
Don't have a width for it.

Kathleen: How much room do you have?
No need in building it, more importantly the doors and width... so tight that all you can do is cover THIS boat/trailer set up. Never know when another C-Brat may pass and will you their TC255 or CD25 or something... and/or, the ability to be able to have some of your "boat stuff" around your boat that you may not take out for every trip... and you do not want to have to move that stuff each and every time you back the boat in...and/or run over it. :mrgreen:

Had a fried of late just "jack up" or add to the height of their storage space, but, if they would have needed more width.... that would have been much more spendy...and a quick, easy, pretty echonomical fix from the previous boat would not have been do-able.

Several factors come into play, almost all of them specific to your trailer. Bunks are lower than rollers. Single axle is taller than tandem (larger wheels.) Length varies between manufacturers, and several offer folding tongues. Width even varies between manufacturers - my Pacific is 8-10" narrower than Kings I've seen.

Beyond the measurements you can find doing a search here, my suggestion - don't skimp, particularly on width. It's far easier to get in/out when you've got at least a couple feet to spare on either side of the trailer.

"Sea Shift" rests her bottom on a tandem axle King Trailer (with rollers).

The height from the top of the cabin (not a tall cabin model) is 8' 2".
The width from the outside edges of the fenders is 8' 8".
The length from the tip of the hitch to the end of the engines in the down position is 30' 6".

When measuring the height, I noticed that the camperback frame work adds additional height.

I do have a radar arch with the radome on top, which gives the total height of 10' 2".

The shop that I had constructed has 12' high by 10' wide doors. If I were to build again, the doors would by no less than 12' wide as currently, there is only 8" on either side of the trailer when backing in the shop.

Fortunately, we live on acreage and when the 3 bay shop was constructed I allowed plenty of room at either side and to the rear for expansion. "IF" we were ever to purchase a larger vessel, we could add a MUCH LARGER bay in height, width and length. (Photos of the shop can be seen in the "Sea Shift" photo album).

Plenty of length beyond that of the overall measurement is suggested so that you can work on the engines while the vessel is "under cover".

All of the above being said, my suggestion is to provide as large of "coverage" as your space permits.

(I find the comparisons of "Da Nag" and "Sea Shift" interesting as the length is quite a bit different. With the position that "Da Nag" 's engine is in, I'd expect his overall length to be longer. (Don't know why there is such a difference in length unless it is just that I have those Big Johnsons...... :roll: )

When "Da Nag" and "Sea Shift" were being "outfitted" by EQ Marine in 2004, they shared work space together in the EQ Marine shop. The two red 22' C-Dorys share a lot of the same equipment features, but chose different trailer and power configurations.
 
Thanks for the really useful info and tips, everyone. I did do a search for measurements before posting, but must not have come up with the right keywords. "Garage" looks like a good one.

I live in the city on a larger lot, so have a bit of space to work with. I think you've convinced me to go as wide and as long as possible which, for me, could be maybe 14' wide by up to 35' long. But, being in the city, I am trying to keep it as unobtrusive in height as possible without cramping it too much. Do you think I will be plenty safe making the opening 12' high, especially considering a future radome on top of the arch? Another future possibility is a tandem axle trailer, but would also probably be bunks, so not likely to add any height, if I'm understanding right.

Of course, I don't know if any of this will accommodate that bigger boat a C-Brat may will to me! If that happens, maybe I'll just sell the place and live on the boat! :D

As long as a TomCat is not in your future... :mrgreen:

The TomCat owners around here will know for sure, but if I'm not mistaken, I believe a TomCat with arch and RADAR is over 12' high on the trailer. This is due to the unique design, that doesn't allow the bottom of the hulls to sit low in the trailer as with a monohull.

In looking at the photo of your vessel on the trailer, the 12' high opening should accomodate your needs. You will be thrilled at having your vessel completely undercover and enclosed. When we return from a cruise, I wash the boat and trailer and it remains in pristine condition until I'm ready to take her out again.
 
Seems I recall a guy towing a TC24 cross country...and on New Years Eve when the Holiday Inn with 13' pull thrus had no more rooms in the inn due to party that night, he went cross the street to some other hotel chain after driving about 12 hours that day some icy parts.... and for some reason, a clearence sign reading 11' 10" landed in the cockpit. :mrgreen: :xseek :thdown He was glad it was loosly mounted on chains and weak anchors.... as was the radar.

No idea who he was. :tea :smilep

Sounds like you are planning for wide. Not a bad idea. Another consideration not mentioned yet is haw are you going to be able to back into the "garage". If you have the room to be able to line up and back straight into the garage, you will be able to get by with a narrower garage and entry door. If you have to back around a 90 degree turn, as in from an ally into the garage, you will probably want some extra width to accommodate the swing room as the trailer straightens up as you come around the corner.

i know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but man, that tomcat's got to be the sister that never made it to the dance. you know me, i'm never one to stir the pot, but damn, where's the charm in that boat?

That's a good consideration to keep in mind, Harvey. I have to back in from the street at a sharp angle and make it between this 12 foot gate opening:

Luckily, I had a lot of maddening practice :cry with backing into the same 12 foot opening in the driveway. It's tight, but do-able, especially with the new front hitch. Once I'm through, I have some room to move around a bit.
