Brake Stutter

I'm kind of getting tired of people arguing with me on that.

Well, now that you mention it, the average weight of a 22, boat motor and trailer, is about 3500 lbs. and the new Cherokee (not the Grand Cherokee) is rated at only a 2000 lb. tow capacity with the 4 cyl, but 4500 with the six.

I have a hemi, its rated at over 7,000lbs tow capacity and we've been towing with it for about a year and a half with no problems at all. It actually is a much more comfortable tow than the 3/4 ton. Our Cherokee is a 2005 Hemi, and I always assumed the CD to be closer to 4500lbs fully loaded, I think sometimes I even round up to assume 5k, really.

I'd not want to tow it with anything smaller (although I know people have) but my cherokee handles it very very well. i've never once felt like i was being pushed around by the boat or out of control at any speed. just this recent brake chatter had to be fixed.

How much of the total weight of the boat/trailer is on the tongue? Does the trailer sit level when hooked up to both vehicles? If the front is higher on the Cherokee than on the Truck, that may be lightly loading the front tires/wheels causing them to skip on braking.

Charlie

It actually does sit pretty level. the cummins just happens to have a drop hitch which sits a bit lower. we towed all last year with the cherokee and had no problems at all, its been a recent occurrence that started increasing. after getting the brakes adjusted/seals/bearings I took it on two short tows just to test it and had zero problems under all the circumstances that I would normally experience problems. in 2 weeks though I'm taking it up to Anacortes for another san juans trip though, so that will be the true test, but as of right now, the brake adjustment this week seems to have been the cure :beer
