Brats in the Broughtons!

We enjoyed visiting with George at Pierre's. The Prime Rib was great. I may give up the Pig Roasts!

We're nicely moored in Kwatsi Bay behind the main dock. The admiral hints that she might do a couple of days here :wink:.

It has been great cruising with Discovery, Lori Ann and C-Cakes. It was the epitome of C-Brat cruising with shared meals, independent exploring and always great fun and laughter.

They are heading South now, seeking warmer areas. We wish them all calm seas.

Here in Pt McNiell. Yesterday the marina got rotally full as boats pulled in to miss the predicted gale. At the fuel dock a Nordhavn 86 sat there for several hours taking on fuel. I walked by as the pump showed 9450 litres. The owner had calculator out figure either quantity left to put in or net worth remaining. Not sure which. The dock guy steve told him. Don't worry. I can do a little better for you. I didn't get no deals when I loaded 40 litres the other day! Liking my little boat just fine. George
 
Thats not in dollar but loonys or what ever they use up there. So I am willing to bet that it was more then
$4 dollars a gallon. when it was $1.75 here it was $1.15 a liter there. no Idea what it is today.
 
It was probably diesel and you need to figure out how many miles he did on it to work out the true cost.

Expensive? Yes, but the other overall costs of running that boat probably exceeded it by a mile.

Nice if you can afford it. If you have to ask how much, you can't. Real question is what % of the owner's disposable income the boat and running costs come to and it was probably a lower number than for many of us. :shock:

When we were "up there" two weeks ago we paid $C 1.57/litre at Sylva Bay. Supposedly Powell River was at $C1.47 but I didn't feel like leaving any more money there.

You get your engine fixed? Wondering what the problem was...and yes, it's the old saying; if you have to ask "how much?", you can't afford it.
 
Problem was a faulty ECM unit (aka the 'puter brain that runs the whole darned show) an $1100.- part.

EQ found it within about 30 minutes, ordered the part, got it in 48 hours and fixed it immediately all under warranty. :lol: :lol: :beer :beer :cigar :cigar :cake :cake.

Difference being a dealer who really cares. The clicking noise was NOT the start relay it was the fuel pump.

If I ever have another such problem I have said I will send Carl an airline ticket and he can spend the rest of the day fishing!! Would have been cheaper than what I spent on repatriating the whole boat.

Seriously, ECM's do fail (rarely but can happen) the quickest way to diagnose the fault is to spend 15 minutes and swap with the other engine. (assuming you have twins :twisted: :twisted: ) You could then get one sent by Fedex.

Actually already have more $$ than that invested in spare props.

Something like $5.50 a gallon. Gas is $1.36 or more a litre. A big bill for sure. Still small part of the guys costs though. The chef went shopping and the other guys were cleaning the boat some more. A 196 ft ketch from the UK is just docking. Waited for low tide to be sure on approach. It's a big one.
 
Must be nice. I'll still consider our 25 our "yacht". :P

Merv glad the fix was quick. Too bad about the trip and the boat units involved. :x

Just for comparison. Gas at Friday Harbor on the 4th weekend was $4.48 gallon, Fisherman's Bay, $4.60.

We are at Campbell River and working our way down to Bellingham. A great time. The Broughtons are the best cruising we've ever done. Patti is over 500 on pictures so we'll have some at Bellingham. As for fuel I wish it were $4. The highest we paid was $1.59/liter at Refuge Cove in Desolation Sound, cheapest was $1.26 at Campbell River a few weeks ago.
 
We paid $1.51/liter at Pender Habour and $1.35/liter at Secret Cove. Next time we're up on the east side of the strait, we'll fuel at Secret Cove.
 
Kerri On is back in Nanaimo. Wonderful trip boat ran flawlessy. Good friends great country and good crew and chow.
Sointula and Alert Bay were great additions to the Broughton area. Also fascinating Telegraph cove for whale activity. The orca resident pod has just come back to the Telegraph Cove area. Gas prices are high and there is current but great cruising area. Thanks all, George
 
Discovery is in Campbell River today (7/14/11) We have departed from the other C-Brats and will spent 3 1/2 more weeks in Canada. We have ordered a camperback from King Marine, and will have it installed on 8/8. We just spent $536.00 for fuel, $1.17/liter.

Still having a good time, but it does rain a lot. About 3 inches last night at Heriot Bay. Thus the need for a camperback if we get back here again.

Brent forgot to tell you all that we followed a pod of about 20 Orca's in Hoskyn channel yesterday for two hours. I took over 100 pix but haven't gotten to review them yet. He also didn't tell you we lost our 2 shrimp traps in the current near Surge Narrows. We looked on slack tide for 2 days but no luck--what a bummer. It was good while it lasted. Now we will have to focus more on salmon fishing. The chinnooks are running here in Campbell River so maybe?!

Back home in Sequim! Nice 5 hour layover in Victoria waiting for the 3:00 Coho. It got downright warm there and some Sun poked through. It got darker as we approached Port Angeles and soon started to rain and it continues.

We had a great 4 weeks. We tried quite a few new anchorages. We now easily spend 5 nights in a row on the hook with the new water tank capacity. Lattes every morning from the Mukka Express. :thup About 3-4 days of Sun was all we saw in 4 weeks!

It was great cruising with the other Brats. We learn a little more about cruising from each of them. Hundreds of photos to browse and sort. A Broughtons 2011 album should pop up soon.

We figure we have about 15 loads of laundry to do before company arrives Sunday!
