c-Brats, I posted last year asking about 25 foot cruisers and tom cats. I'm still on the fence about a tomcat however let me tell you what I really want and you can tell me if anybody makes this boat?

10 foot beam
27 to 28 feet long
either outboard or inboard. No inboard outboard.
must sleep at least 4 preferably 5 or 6.
Must be trailerable.
if inboard, must be diesel.

I'm going to look at a 27 foot sea sport soon. But ideally it would be a 27 or 28 footer with an inboard. I don't think what I want exists shamrock is close but not quite.

I have discovered aspen catamarans, but realistically they are twice my budget. other than that the aspens are exactly what I'm looking for.

You could probably find a 26' Tollycraft that would be close.
I THINK that the inboards are (were) trailerable.
Single or twins.
Gas or diesel.
 
I'm not sure what sort of speed you are looking for, nor what your price range is, so this is just a guess.

At any rate, Albin 27 popped into mind. They are a diesel inboard monohull with an aft cabin, so they have two staterooms. Although they are over the usual "freely legal" 8'6" or 9' beam for trailering, quite a few people do trailer them, so you might find one on a trailer already. They are only just over 9'6" beam though, not 10' specifically, so that may count them out for you.

(10' beam is trailerable but you're into permit territory -- you probably are already aware of that though).
 
Sounds a lot like a Ranger 27 tug, not quite that beam as it is trailerable w/o a permit. They now have a 29 as well, not sure of its beam either
 
How about a 27' Skagit/Orca? I've seen those, and their beautiful boats with an inboard. They're too expensive and heavy for me, but they look really good. I think Triton has made a couple of them. And now SeaSport, which is nearly the same boat.

I've seen the Skagit used, and I imagine they'd make a good buy. I wanted one, but Judy bought the C-Dory 25 and it turned out to be the right boat.

I also think inboards for smaller boats are being phased out by the big 4-stroke outboards they make now.

You are describing the Ranger Tug 29. Volvo inboard diesel, sleeps up to 6. Has exactly 10 foot beam. Is trailer able. This is it. More accommodation than a Grand Banks 32, modern layout lots of bling. It's a mountain but legally trailer able with your big diesel dually. They are taking orders!! Enjoy. Nothing else I know of out there. With the big seaports or orcas bring the gas station with you. George

I should have read more carefully. The Aspen cat runs maybe $200k plus options So you are after what you want for $100k? here is where the first word of any boat purchase comes in....compromise. So needs and wants start to need a tweak. I suggest perusing Bill and El's excellent website on the Halcyon Days. Not sure there is anything out there that you can hit for a $100k. Good luck. :thup
 
I hate to lead anyone to a bayliner but that is where you need to look. the 25 classic is what you are describing.

Also old tolly craft 26 to 30 ft .tolly

Thank you all for the responses.budget is under 100k so ranger is out. I have had my eye on Albin for quite awhile but not sure if the missus will go for the tiny upper cabin but it looks likeit'll work on paper. I really like the skagit/sea sport/osprey style but why why why did they have to go and put an out drive on them? I'm a mechanic by trade and will be doing all off the MX and am not looking forward to pulling of yet another out drive every year.

I have always liked the old tollys but the floor plan leaves a little to be desired in the length I want.

Love the tomcat. Can you realistically go port hopping in Puget sound and sleep two couples on that boat? That boat almost has it all...fast. Fishy..stable..low maintenance...

I know i'm all over the board but there are just so many directions to go.
 
well the perfect boat is differant for everyone. I like the saying "perfect boat drinks 6 eats 4 and sleeps 2" you will be much happier if the other couple has there own boat. I know I am.
 
Or you could look at Armstrong. Big, Beautiful, and they will even make it to your spec's,....... $100K, well maybe not so much :roll:

A Sea Sport 27 Pilot might fit your requirements and budget, except it's only 8.5' beam. Many were made with Volvo Diesel sterndrives - like our Bounty 257. Pushing that heavy a boat around sure is easier and cheaper with diesel. The Volvo sterndrive works for us. It has to be maintained for sure, but we have 4600 hours in 14 years so far on ours with a 260hp diesel. You absolutely do not have to pull it every year. Ours has been off/apart only three times.

Particularly with the diesel and duo-prop, these boats also do well at displacement speeds - we get 4.5 nmpg traveling at 6.5 knots, in an 11K lb boat.

Don't know if you could find one in your budget, but Eagle Craft made aluminum 28's with 10' beam and diesel:

according to the eagle craft spec sheet it gets about 2.5 mpg at cruise of 26. Thats a little better then my 27. very nice boats but pricey.

you know the c-dory 29 with the second birth under the table ( if I remember that right) would fit what you are looking for. I would not discount it. I would want a ride in it and I mean all day not just around the dock. We never got any mph or mpg number for that boat that I remember. It has as much room as a 25 tug and for a lot less money.
 
You sure you want to trailer a 10ft beam? Not only is a permit required, it is not fun to trailer something that wide...even with a really big truck. Just askin'
 
Again, thank you all for the responses. You are all so cordial to help a non C-Dory owner. I have reviewed ALL of your suggestions with interest. All I can say is I will definately buy.....a boat. I'm more confused now than ever! The more I look, the worse it gets.

Is anybody taking their 25 Cruiser or 255 to Trawler Fest next week? I'd sure like to see one up close and personal.

I'm really not sure about the 10' beam, the more I think about it. I do have a 12,500 lb tow capacity and am comfortable towing big trailers, but you're right, doesn't mean I want to. 8.5 beam means less hassle and easier annual haul outs or runs to Westport, Neah Bay, San Juan's and beyond. Plus, it seems that most 10' plus beam boats don't come with trailers.
