British Columbia Shellfish license

This is probably a foolish question - but does both my wife and myself need a BC Tidal Fishing License if only one of us handles the crab pot, etc? We only have one crab trap and don't really want to pay $106 annual (or $32 5 day) fee for both of us.

I'm assuming only one would need the license (not everyone in the boat) as long as they did all the crabbing and the daily limits would be only for one person?

Thanks.

One limit and one handler/fisher = one license. A person assisting is also generally tolerated so long as you only possess one limit.

I could be wrong for some special harvesting activity but I am OK with that.

There shouldn't be any problem with one licence one crab pot as you are allowed two pots per licence. Stay within the possession limits and you will be fine. Salmon fishing is more complicated -two people one licence equals one fishing rod, if everyone on board has a licence then as many rods as you want. Hope this helps.

You have probably read this, but three of the poisonous algae are rife in the Pacific coast now. And at least in Oregon the levels are high enough to affect crabs.

Does anybody know what this biggest red tide outbreak in recent history means for the crabbing season this year? Should we even bother throwing the pots over the side?
