Hi Everyone, this is my first posting as I am a C-Dory Wanna Be. After 13 other boats from 14 to 30 feet, I am very interested in C- Dory. Have visited 3 Rivers Marine in Florida and very impressed. Wanted a Demo ride but they could not arrange it. Anyway I have been learning a lot from your postings.
I have two questions. Other than the change in the deadrise of the bow section around 1987, has there been any significant changes in the C-22 design and equipment? Second, we like to read in bed occasionally, and it seemed to us that the headroom in the forward cabin was so tight that one could not feally sit up in bed and read. Is this true? If so how do others deal with this situation. Thanks for any help you can give. Come Along (My last boat)
 
YOU could make up the dinette set as a bed and very easily read there .Just like fishtales . IN 1987 they changed the deadrise to 2degrees from a flat bottom you can look at the different boats from 1980s then the newer boats 1990s and newer . Some of the changes have been cosmetic and also fuel capacity up to 1999 they had 2 18gallon rear tanks then in 2000 they went to 20 gallon tanks . Then again in I believe in 2003 they added larger tanks 25 gallons and built in fiberglass rear cockpit floors .
Now the new 2008 have fiberglass cabinets in the cabin . Do a search and you find what you need . Another option is to look for the cape cruiser 06-07 or the new 23 ventures by c-dory 08 .Good luck in your Quest . If your down by Naples I'd be happy to show you a cc-23

3Rivers has not been a C Dory dealer for almost 3 years. There are several other Dealers in Mid Florida-Perhaps Wefing's in EastPointe (Apalachicola) would be your best bet.

The entry of the boats after 1987 is also slightly finer. There are many small changes along the way--and you can find these by looking at the albums of the various aged boats on this site. There is room for modifications, and many interiors have been modified. The most recent boats have a raised cockpit floor, the sliding front seat so that the dinette seat can face foreward, and a molded interior. Personally I like the older interior as well.

We owned a 22 for about 5 years, and then went to a Tom Cat and a 25. The 22 has a little less bunk room than the 25, but I read there almost every night with no problem (6'2" and about 185 lbs). You cannot sit up straight-but propping up with pillows etc is comfortable. I also sometimes read lying athwartships.

There is a gathering in the middle of October at Apalachicola--and that is the best way to get a feel for all of the C Dory line. There are hotel rooms available, or camping if you cannot bring a boat. It is a great time-and the best way to learn about the boats--along with rides in all of them.

Also look at the for sale pages of this site. I have traveled almost over the entire US buying C Dories--so it is worth taking a few days to pick up a boat if you find a good one, some distance away.
 
They added the "Barber Chair" option for the 2005 model C-dorys. It allowed part of the table to swing down which allowed the forward dinette chair to slde back so the passenger was able to sit facing forward.

Our very own Mike Barber, AKA TyBoo designed it and the proceeds he got from licensing the design to C-Dory allowed him to live in luxury for 32 milliseconds.

Hi Folks,

The pre 1986 22' C-Dory, which I own, has the whole port side of the cabin by the bunk area open because the boats had a smaller cabin, so the forward seat of the dinette was the aft of the port bunk. The most comfortable place to read is at that spot. You have full seating room and comfortable room to lean against the port side of the cabin with your legs stretched out over the head cushion.

As they expanded the cabin, they made the cockpit smaller, and the dinette bigger. Along the way they made the entrance to the forward cabin smaller, moved the porti-potti further forward so a man can not stand!!!. If you have a tall body, you have to use the 13" Porti-potti, which is quite low to the deck.

I think this is the reason people have moved up to the 25' C-Dory.

Me, I am happy with what I have, even with it's faults.

Addition.

I have found that I can add a seat that sits on the dinette table for the pilot to sit. In order to do this, you have to secure the table leg so it will not come out. It takes my previous 200# without any problem.

Me too - that's what's kept me married for 27 years. Of course, for the record, my wife has no faults (just in case she reads this). :wink:

You're walking on a slippery slope there, Roger. Your wife may have one big fault that many women share... but she married you, anyway. :wink I don't know what they see in us, but I don't question it.

For the record, I like to read in bed, too. Prop a few pillows up and the v-berth in the 25 is a great "nest." My nearly flawless wife (bad taste in men 36 years ago) does the same.
