To my friends who knew my close friend of over 60 year: C A Derivas. C A Passed on this morning. He was a master mariner. In 1973 he circumnavigated the World in 18 months, in a 32 foot boat he had built with his wife and two teen age girls. CA also raced this boat, including the Transpacific--one of the smallest boats to do that race. I have sailed over 10,000 niles as his watch captain on his 55 foot cutter. He also made over 2 more circumnavigations with this boat and his wife Bettie. Marie and I would fly to meet them in many parts of the World. Tomorrow would have been their 41st wedding anniversary C A would have been 93 years old on December 21.
CA and Bettie owned two C Dorys, a 22 and a 25 which was sold about a month ago to one of our C Brats who owns a 22. They had come to several of our March gatherings on the St. Johns River-Hontoon state park gatherings.
C A Had seved as an air traffic controller during the Korean War. He was a High School Civics and history teacher, and owned a sail loft for his second job. He made some superb sails, and had developed the first computer driven sail making program.
May C A rest in peace, and our prayers go out to his wife Bettie, and his daughter Donna (Derivas) Cook.
