C-Brat RugBrats of the PNW

I've read that there are quite a few C-Brat families in Washington that have little kids...if you're one of them would you like to attend a C-Brat Rugrat BBQ/potluck?

I don't know when or where right now, I'm just asking if others are interested.

This one day get together would be open to everyone, including grandparents with grandchildren and anyone who just acts child-like! Of course friends would be most welcome.

My vision...

We'd meet at a child-friendly marina in the Sound that has a big grassy field nearby or a playground or a really nice beach (Suggestions???) and the adults would just kickback and let the kids play while enjoying each other's company (and cooking/eating/changing diapers/yelling at the kids to quit eating mud or quit throwing rocks/...)

This would be a good opportunity for us to introduce the next generation of C-Dory owners to the true spirit of being a C-Brat.

The next step...

If you're interested, let's use this thread to narrow down the date and venues and plan the event.

or we can just let this thread die a natural death :(

Since mine is 17 YO now, I guess we wouldn't qualify.....however if the date and location you decide upon works into our schedule, we'd consider crashing your gathering. (Wife and daughter can't seem to get enough of being around small children.. ...(wife's an elementary school nurse).

Oh and a thought .....in keeping with the C-Brat nomenclature you should consider changing the title from "Rugrat" to "RugBrat" :wink .

(A suggestion as to a destination for this adventure would be Jetty Island in Everett, however the dock space is perhaps too limited there).

If it is open to everyone, and you don't mind a non C-dory boat, count us in!
The end of June looks good for us, weekend of the 30th & 31st, or anytime after July 14th weekend.
This sound like a great idea! We often shy away from going boating with people because we have young boys, 7 and 5. They would love to be able to meet other kids.

DaveS,

I hope our final date meets with your approval, we'd love to have you and your family along. With my boys, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a nurse around too :D

Oh yeah...check out the name, I changed it to RugBrats!

Jeff and Julie,

You may not have a C-Dory, but you obviously have good taste by being a member of this web site so....COME ON DOWN! We'd love to meet you and the boys!

TimFlan,

I was hoping you would join in.

TyBoo,

Thank you for giving me this opportunity.

Location Suggestions

Jetty Island in Everett
Quartermaster Harbor on Vashon Island
I'll throw out Blake Island...although I've never been there.

Date Suggestions

June 30th or 31st
July 28th or 29th

If we want to do June, we need to decide soon!!

Thanks everyone,

-Carl

Our grandson, Bryce, will be cruising in the Sound or San Juans until 19 June. Maybe someone might like a little pre-Gathering mini-RugBrat Gathering -- perhaps on Sucia?

I would be intrested in this event as well. Depending on distance via boat or access to a ramp if it's somewhere I need to tow to. Also, if this will be an overnight event, would need to have either camping or hotel availability, as it can get mighty tight for 5 on my lil' o tug.

El and Bill's message along with Kimshack's raises an interesting issue...

We did not buy a trailer! We are moored in Edmonds so if we are to attend a one day event, it'll need to be within a couple hours travel time of Edmonds.

Of course, you can always have a get together without my family and me... :cry

Or we can find a place where staying overnight is an option.
------

El and Bill, I would LOVE to meet your grandson Bryce, but I'm not sure what plans the Mrs. has for us this weekend. Father's day weekend is already booked with the in-laws.

Kimshack, your family MUST attend!!! Anyone who lists her husband as one of the children is a mandatory attendee... I think Nam and I will bond :wink

Dang Carl...after a slow start, this thing's really taken off!

I have to second the suggestion for Blake Island. Yes, it's popular, but with justification.

I also want to second the notion of Sucia Island. As a child, this was my absolute favorite destination. But, as Carl says, it's too far away for a day trip for us Seattle-Metro-Area dwellers. But SOMEDAY we should schedule a RugBrats gathering on Sucia. Someday THIS SUMMER, perhaps, or maybe early autumn when the crowds start to disperse.

Oh, I am so pouting here on the east coast. We have a seven year old, and are attending the Chesapeake Bay gathering this weekend, and except for one girl that I think is 14-15 there are no other children. Oh, where oh where are the east coast RugBrats......?

We would be motoring up from Tacoma. Is there anywhere on Bainbridge that might work?
Blake would be fine for us as well. We know several great places in the south sound (thanks to Robbi on C-Run!!) but may be too far from Edmonds.

Jeff and Julie

OK, so I pulled out the 2007 Waggoner Cruising Guide for places that are mid-way between Edmonds and Tacoma.

I have not been to any of these so if you have first hand knowledge please share with us your insight:

1. Silverdale Marina - states, "The marina is adjacent to county-run Silverdale Waterfront Park. The park has picnic tables, fire pits, children's play area, and a pavillion." Apparently there is a Whaling Days celebration the last week of July, so this would need to be a June 30th or July 1st trip.

2. Illahee Marine State Park - states, "Park has 3 kitchen shelters, picnic tables, campsites, horsehoe pits, ball field, hiking trails."

3. Port of Brownsville - states, "Up on the wharf, a covered picnic/gathering pavillion, with tables, is inviting. Additional picnic tables are on the docks, and in OverLook Park above the wharf, with barbecue."

4. Port Orchard Marina - states, "An excellent children's area is located at the north end of the marina grounds."

Again, Blake Island fits the bill if we think we can all find moorage.

Kimshack - you're most welcome to dip your boat in at the Edmond's marina and cruise down with me and possibly Two Lucky Fish (TimFlan). I believe the roundtrip is $30 using the boat lift.

Again, never having been to any of these, Silverdale sounds inviting because of the county park nearby AND I don't think it'll be as crowded as the rest.

Get you votes in...these kids aren't getting any younger! :smilep

Geez, I wish I had C-Dancer when my kids were small. I really envy you guys. As Sarge says,

How right you are Carl, time seemed to be going slowly while the kids were growing up but after they did actually grow up and move out, the time seemed like a snap of a finger. Enjoy them while you can.

This RugBrats BBQ is a great idea! I hope it all comes together.

We have been to Brownsville and there really isn't much there for the kids, at least not that we found.
Port Orchard is probably the one we would vote for.
We have been talking to the boys about this and they are really excited!

Jeff and Julie

I'll advocate for Blake Island again, but it's the only one of those that I've visited!

Also, don't neglect Eagle Harbor, which has playground equipment and picnic tables at Waterfront Park.

Of the other destinations, Port Orchard gets high marks in one of my other cruising guides.
