C-Byrd - Byrdman Returns

Those that say a happiest day of boat ownership is the day you sell a boat....well...they just bought the wrong boat to start with.....

and...since the first day I sold C-Byrd to Clif I have missed her many times over.

A lot of you knew and met "Momma Byrd" during either gatherings at our home on the Cumberland River in TN....or...the C-Brat gatherings around the Seattle Boat Show....or Argosy Cruises during our gatherings....yet...the spirited young lady (78 ish at the time) doing the Titanic pose on the forward bow during our cruise.... Well we lost her several years back now....but the day we closed on the estate I get an email from Clif wanting to know if I still wanted first buyers option on C-Byrd. So I have bought her back!!!

Picking her up around the end of June after returning from my Peru mission trip....and heading to the Pacific North west as to allow her some of her home waters under her hull.

Shrimping July....and hey....never made that Catalina gathering in August...so who knows. Can not wait !!!

Pat, congratulations! I cannot say "welcome back", since in my mind you never left! Once a C Brat, always a C Brat!

Maybe you can make the Mississippi gathering in Sept-see you there, or in Apalachicola--or on Perdido Bay.

Great to have a C Dory again!

Howdy, as opposed to welcome back. Your presence has been here all along.

And by the way, Patrick, since you are in the PNW let's plan on seeing you at the Powell river CBGT so keep that Pass Port handy. What a great opportunity to get back the C-Byrd. You are soooooooo RIGHT, those other guys, just bought the wrong boat in the first place.

Looking forward to crossing some wakes and hearing some tales.

Hey Crew! Thanks for the replies. Great to get back and can not wait to get back to some gatherings, trips and water adventures with yall again. Going to start a little Catalina research as far as cities/ramps/tow vehicle and trailer storage possibilities as to allow me to possibly make that trip this summer. Looks like a road and boat trip from the Stanwood, WA area.

Safe and happy travels to all.

Pat,
I also recommend the Sunset Aquatic launching area. Hunting Harbor, about 25 miles to Catalina. We will be around this area some days, (no boat) in July, and maybe early August

Yes I do plan to come up your way Rick and Donna at some point upon my return to the PNW this summer/fall time frame.

Hey Bob! Would love to see yall again soon too.

Will again help with the potato harvest mid September thru October then head back to TN for the winter months.

During the winter months I may cut the stern area out of C-Byrd and build a power hull extension for her like Bob Rosborough designed for the RF-246. Not cutting out the transom, but attaching the extension to the transom. I simply love everything it does for ALOYSIUS and can greatly improve the CD18 Angler. If it does not work out for some unforeseen reason....take it off and rebuild the engine well area....and again loose that 23" of cockpit space, loose a wonderful swim platform for getting on/off the boat and cleaning up a bit prior to re-boarding the boat.

The first time I had this hull I wanted to keep it as original as possible as it is the last of only 14 of the 18 Anglers the Tolands built. But after a few trips and some use of her....and seeing what the extension accomplished for the Rosborough boat.... I am over keeping her original and now want to pursue some possible improvements as for the way I use this boat. Gaining 23" fore/aft in the cockpit is a vast gain of space when working with downriggers, shrimp pots and crabbing and all the support gear that goes with them.
