C-Dory 22 Cruiser vs Arima Sea Ranger 19 Hardtop

I know this is introducing another variable, but from what you described for use, I'd take a look at a Ranger tug 21. Enclosed cabin, lots of cockpit space, not a planing boat but is powered by a 30hp yanmar and will cruise on less than 1 gallon/hr.

Just in case I wasn't clear before: Most C-Dory 22 Anglers will have the solid cabin back with a center door - just like the Cruiser does. I think the canvas rear bulkhead was a less-common option.

Even though I'm a cruiser and don't fish at all (yet?), I still seriously considered the Angler 22 just for all that cockpit space. I would have put on a camperback and made that my saloon (vs. having it half in the cabin and half out as on the Cruiser). I did end up deciding on the Cruiser for various reasons, but for your scenario (no overnighting), I would have selected the Angler 22 (with solid door bulkhead) over the Cruiser 22 (if going with a C-Dory).
 
Don't worry about the folding tongue modification--it was a result of bad roads of the South…I 5 would not have anything like that! :sad The trailer was undersized by some criteria--but had over 10,000 miles on it before the failure. No rust or corrosion found.

A dual axle trailer will do will, and I have towed other C Dorys over nearly 20,000 miles over the last 11 years with no issues. The "new" trailer under the boat is much more substantial.

I would ride in both boats, under the same conditions. Both are quality boats, and you cannot go wrong with either. I seem to hear of more who go from Arima to C Dory than Visa Versa.
 
We had a new Arima 19 with a canvas back. You could add an Alaskan Bulkhead to replace the canvas. but we sold the Arima after a few years and went to the 23 Cape Cruiser. At the time we were comparing the Arima and the 22 C-Dory at CQ Marine (Les). My son wanted the Arima; I wanted the C-Dory. The Arima was more of a sports car (sharper Vee entry), and agile. But it was loud with just the canvas back (hard to talk). It has a foam filled hull (similar to a Boston Whaler), and I was always a little concerned about getting water intrusion into the foam core.

We opted for the 23 Cape Cruiser because:

1. It is similar to going from a sport car to a VW Camper as Les would say
2. Standing head room and big berth
3. The enclosed cabin is a big plus for comfort (less noise plus cabin heat)
4. Four is a comfortable number and with the camper back adds lots of room for sitting.
5. No regrets. Should have gone with the 22 at the start, but the 23 Cape Cruiser is a nice step up.
