C-Dory arrived Weds

C-Dory arrived on Weds. My friend and I have been working in miserable heat, humidity, and (rare for this area) hungry Mosquitoes.

Here is what we have done so far:

Installed a 2.4 CU FT Kenmore refrigerator under the starboard cabinet.

8,000 BTU Kenmore A/C that cycles just fine with the Honda 2000Eu in auto throttle.

Installed the Mini Jacker on the the port side transom

Installed a new Nissan branded 9.8 Tohatsu kicker.

Installed the Easy Steer Kicker steering setup.

Installed the Pro Troller2 Pilot house throttle control for the kicker.

Rod Holders.

Magna Stainless grill

8' 6' Zodiac Zoom tender

2hp Honda 4 stroke for tender.

I am broke now lol!

If everything goes right we are going to Jordan Lake on Tuesday for Sea Trials to check all systems out before we hit the Carolina Coast next week.

The Dory was in the exact shape that the owner described. She in awesome condition. It also came with a brand new dual wheel dic brake aluminum trailer.

I will post a report after we test all the systems on the lake.

Very excited, beautiful boat.

The information provided by the C-Brat Forum was invaluable to installing all the Equipment, Thank you all so much for your postings with photos.
 
Cong. on the C-Dory, sounds like you have been working hard on getting it Rigged Out, It took me 2 years to do what you have done in a few Days

Wow, if you can knock all that work out in 2 days in the heat, we'll all want to hire you to knock out work on our boats. :wink: I'll be interested in seeing the photos. Have fun with the new toy!

If it wasn't for the heat. bugs, and humidity, anyone of the C-Brats could have done that in 2 days.
None of the tasks were difficult. We spent more time traveling for hardware, sealer, and the like.
It sounds like a lot but just basic handy man work.

Sea trials went great. I never pulled a boat on a trailer before and the entrance and exit to my house from the road are a night mare. about 12" to spare in and out.

My worries were uncalled fore and when I hit the main road all was goodness.

Launching the boat was very easy. I still have a lot to learn about backing a trailer and towing but get me in the water and I am a fish.

90 Yamaha started on the touch of the key and was so quiet I wasn't sure it was running.

Systems:

Main engine 2005 Yamaha 90hp (103 hrs) 100%
Mini Jacker and 2012 9.8 Nissan ( 0 hours) 100%
Easy steer 100%
Pro Troll 2 100%
All other systems 100%.

My underwear percent full when I had the trim tabs wrong and hit 24MPH into the wind and Bow went sideways = 100%

I have a whole new learning curve ahead. I never much went beyond 6 or 7 knots in my sailboat. (except in a storm).

There is a whole new set of Physics involved here. I will get it and each time out I will learn the boat.
I was able to beach the boat. The was a new high. Found a beach on the lake and edged right up.

I was used to a 5' Keel and just used to watch from afar.

If everything goes OK, Monday or Tues of next week will be heading to the Carolina Coast for an Ocean workout.

I will take photos. I have to say without the photos of the C-brats none of the work would be done yet. A picture is worth a thousand words and You guys are great.

Now you can update your profile with some specifics, like what boat, engine etc. Just something to do in your spare time :wink:

Congrats on the successful sea trial. As to backing your trailer.... Remember the trailer goes the same way as the bottom of your steering wheel when in reverse.

Harvey, a bit off topic story, but I tried to teach a lady friend how to back a small travel trailer. Using the same approach as you described, I got out of the way to let her practice. It took me the longest time to convince her not to reverse the direction of the steering wheel when the "bottom" of the wheel got to the "top". It was definitely a goat rodeo for a bit.

I guess I'm odd man out here. When I back the trailer I don't pay any attention at all to where my hands are. I just watch the back of the trailer out the mirror and make very small movements with my hands to start the back of the trailer going in the desired direction. I'm only watching the side and rear view mirrors except for an occasional glance up to make sure the truck is not about to hit something. When I thought about it because of this thread, I discovered my hands were at the top of the wheel. I'm not sure I could even tell you what direction I move them in.

Believe me, I have to stop and think about it to tell someone. When I am doing it, I don't even think about it. It is all in the mirrors, I think :wink:
