Epoxy is often used in repairs because of its secondary bonding strength is better than Polyester and Vinyl Ester resin.
Older C Dories were done with polyester resin. No epoxy in current or old boats. It is possible that vinyl ester resin is used for the first couple of layers currently, but check with the factory.
