c-dory warrenties worthless?

Fluid Marine couldn't pay the light bill let alone the rent, wages and taxes selling one boat a month with a factory set up for twenty-five boats a month...just overtaken by the combined effect of the residual impacts of Lathamization and the Great Recession.

Thanks for the link, Pat. It seems, as you said, that it was before I began to frequent this site. It also seems that there are those here that are more than willing to call a spade a Got Dam Shovel..... You should all be commended.

i'm holding up my hand, but guess you didn't see it. i did have severe blistering and it cost me $2800 to remedy. this situation, in my opinion should not have occurred and still believe the blisters were caused by poor workmanship and/or inferior materials. when i had originally posted this problem there were several others who had complained of the same problem. just didn't want you to over look this small matter.

Can't hold up someone elses hand either but I recall some WC brat having the whole boat replaced by the factory (don't think it was Fluid) because of osmosis....

Just a point, and it may be a minor one-

The 5 year warranty covered the structural elements of the boat- hull / deck. Everything esle was a 1 year warranty.

I have been contacted by a couple of owners with warranty concerns, but their issues were items that would not have been covered by the 5 year warranty, only by the one year warranty, and they were past that point.

Another quick point- factory direct purchased boats have no support when the factory closes. Buying from a dealer can give some support.
 
I could not resist this. Some companies buy other companies and honor the warranties of previously built product. The new C-Dory people chose not to do that. I for one won't be leading a cheer for these people. Everyone says they build a good boat and are great people. I think if what some say is true that structual hull problems are rare why didn't these folks do it right and continue the business seamlessly. I myself think they could have done the right thing in my eyes. They build some good boats here on the east coast. I would never recommend someone buy so much as a pop rivet from these folks. Just my opinion. As you were.

From actually talking with the owner of SeaSport, Charles said the warranty issue would be handled on a case by case basis, and that there was no blanket answer. He and his sons are all knowledgeable and appreciative of this site, the C-Dory history, of how to make good boats, and how to make good business. And they are still doing business and building boats. I would certainly give them a chance.
