C-Ranger 25

WOW... would seem timely for Joel on SEA3PO to chime in. He has a very nice propane system set up on his 22. I like cooking with gas too. I like when you turn it off....it is off....particuarly when cooking breakfast on the boat in the hot summer mornings... and...the system seems to handle the "road wear"/bouncing/jaring a bit better than our picky ol wallas units...

Does anyone know if the new improved version of the walls has the threaded "shaft" or rod in the "air flow" tube thing that has the little fan thing in??? Now...yall just jump all over that one... I have no clue what the real name for all those parts are...but....anyone who has a wallas, and has laid down on their backs and looked up into that little tolie paper tube (oh...there is another one) that holds the fan blades... that is the part I am talking about. In my 2003 version...the blades were "held"....or suppose to be held in place by a "push-lock-nut" type device. Why not thread that sucker, and put a lock nut on the top and bottom of the fan blade to "KEEP IT" in place... Mine slide down the shaft...and Karl recommended a "quick fix" of pushing it back up and super glueing it.. Well...it kinda sorta worked. Did good on high...OK on medium... not good at all on low...and was much louder...and less efficient. I never understood why they had put such a cheap unpredictable...(or I guess really predictable) push nut device on such a crital part in this system. It aint like we are paying $100 for the system... and the shaft is plenty large enough for threads and locknuts....and would really help this unit.

being a uscg 100 ton licensed master, i know the devastation caused by fire. from the onset to total destruction only takes two or three minutes.
on july 7, 2006 at the lees ford marina, www.leesfordmarina.com, located on beautiful lake cumberland, ky, a propane tank apparently, developed a leak, inside a docked houseboat. when the explosion and flames subsided, four houseboats, two pwc's and one runabout were found to be destroyed. total loss amount to boats and dock, as well as heat damage to adjacent boats, is currently estimated in excess of $1,500,000.
each boat owner was insured, however each insurance carrier now has the right and obligation, (to share holders) to investigate and if they can determine negligence on the boat owners part, and/or others, litigate. negligence could take the form of not installing the tank correctly or perhaps lack on maintenance, or who knows what today, at any rate, my point is, most boaters carry liability coverage, but carry far less than a million. when i read about propane/butane use, i will now automatically reflect on what happened july 7, and wander who's dreams just turned into nightmares! bottom line, umbrellas are available for 1 or 2 million (or larger) amounts, and probably in most states cost somewhere around $150. to $250. (annually).
hope this info is taken in the spirit it's given.
best regards to all
pat

CPT Pat.... Thanks!! Sad only 2 PWCs....

Was on a dock while in college back in the 70s when a dude fired up an IO boat without turning on blowers..... Good news is it blew him into the water due to him sitting on the top of the helm seat/gunnel area to start the boat....and he just got some pretty bad "flash burns"....

Bad news....well... there just was not PWCs in those days... :cry

Marina fires always hurt. Good reminder of what could happen...even to our boats while "safely" tucked away in the marina.

Back to the top...as you can see from another thread, C-Ranger 25 Hull No. 1 is now for sale at Y Landing in New Hampshire...When I was at the C-Dory factory to drop off Daydream for some glass repair last week, I asked Scott Matthews if any C-Ranger 25 had been delivered to an individual purchaser, and he said not as far as he was aware. He also said he thought Hull No. 2 had also gone back east. Presumably Hull No. 3 is under construction at the Ranger factory, but I really don't know. I will probably call Jeff Messmer this week for an update for the rest of us...Jeff - if you are out there, bud - how about posting an update for everyone?

Hey there, Pat - I, too, am wondering what is happening on the new C-Rangers. I guess I missed a chance to do the sea-trial thing on the first two models. Are they both blue? Apparently there is alot of interest to get them into the NE Coast "Trawlerfest" expositions. The ads from those East Coast dealers have varying and conflicting, in places, descriptions of the C-Ranger 25. Is the new standard engine 75 HP or 80 HP? Is the optional generator 2,500 Watt or 5,000 Watt? Are all the cabin doors oval glassed? What does the fixed radar mount look like? And other questions abound.

Let me know if you or anyone up there has a peek at what is actually happening if you can! John

Yes I have a propane system on my 22 Cruiser......and I love it...and feel safe with it....but I was really careful when I installed it.... I had a marine survivor help me set it up....I had to mount the tank in the sealed port lazarette with the overboard vent....so no gas could possibly enter the boat...then he had me mount a solenoid inside the lazarette so when the system was off it was totally isolated from the inside of the boat... then the plumbing line was one piece and installed a pipe so I am really confident that it is safe.... I am very happy with the system... it uses about a pound of propane a week ( of cooking every meal) and is really easy to light (has a automatic lighter) and is just like cooking at home.... it's just super...

PS..... I am still working in the mountains working as a volunteer archeologist .... in Lassen Park...lots of hiking...today I hiked around Juniper Lake...it was beautiful... but the site was disappointing...

OK, Jeff Messmer called me yesterday afternoon as he was on his way to Des Moines to splash the first C-Ranger 25 to be delivered to an individual retail customer! The delivery presumably happened yesterday afternoon, and the customer will be out cruising over the Labor Day weekend. I didn't think to ask if he could tell us who got the first retail C-Ranger 25 - whoevery you are, if you are here, tell us!!!! This is good news indeed! There will be more information to follow as Jeff is able to release it. We are still waiting for our sea trial and final purchase decision, but it is made easier for us (sorry, drjohn!) by the fact that we have such a great boat in the meantime in Daydream and have been enjoying the heck out of it. I am just sold on everything about the C-Ranger 25, but Patty still needs to be convinced there are good reasons Daydream isn't everything we need. In truth, it IS - this is about WANT not NEED for me!!!! !

We are planning to have the southern debut of the C Ranger 25 at the Gulf Coast Gathering in Oct. , assuming all goes according to plan . We are excited , and welcome all to come see it . Ill make sure to update progress .All are welcome !
Marc

Thanks for keeping us updated, Pat, and thanks for the info Jeff. That's great news indeed! Yes, whoever is the lucky recipient of the first production C-Ranger, please give us some feedback. As far as I know, no prospective customer has been able to sea trial the boat.

I agree, Steve. I am amazed that those of us who have put down money and waited so long for even a sea trial must still wait while completed boats are being shipped to dealers and other customers. Maybe I will have to fly to the East Coast and disguise myself as a total stranger with no deposit down in order to get to try one of these out! John

Base price is on brochure page of C-Ranger 25 at C-Dory's site which is listed at the bottom left of C-Brats Home Page.

Base price is $109 K plus options. A detailed price list can be had by clicking on the .pdf box there on the C-Ranger 25 page.
Also, Trawlers MidWest and some other dealers list equipped models from $139 - 141 K.

For pricing, EQ Marine has the price list on their website www.eqmarine.com
Click on the Ranger Tug, and then the pricing page.

For anybody unhappy with the boats coming East, believe me it was not planned that way. Unfortunately, the boatshows were planned in October 2005 and there was money and advertising pre-paid for that effort. It was not envisioned that there would be any conflicts. This was before there was a price list, or Seattle Boatshow, or any orders.
In related news, you'll notice there are no long term orders waiting here on the East Coast because we haven't had the opportunities you have out West between the SBSCBC and Poulson (spelling?). We just get to see them now, and Newport, RI has a show in September. So basically 9 months later for the East Coast Team. I know it is disappointing for anyone with an order. I'm not trying to make excuses but just trying to limit the conspiricy theories before they start. Obligations were made to boatshows and dealers here in the East before any orders were taken. They were based on DATES and not boat numbers. We never expected to get hull number 01 and didn't ask for it. We DID and DO have boatshow obligations. C-Dory and the Ranger team are doing their best.
Anybody who wants to test drive one with us does not need a disguise. Ours is in the shop getting the gelcoat touched up after a long truck ride. It should be in the water Wednesday-Thursday. We'll have some info and pictures then.
Hope this helps!

I think the commitments to dealers were made back in October 2005, before the Seattle Boat Show...at least, that is what I thought I heard.

The base price of the C-Ranger 25 tug at the Janaury 2006 Seattle Boat Show, before there was any more than a hull and a liner and some drawings, was $95K. Still a lot more than a CD22, but certainly within striking distance of a CD25...

thanks for the information. my response would be, man, do i love my little 22' c-dory cruiser!

Maybe Jeff could regularly update those of that made a deposit last January on a C-ranger-25 via e-mail. It would be nice to know what progress is being made at the factory and possibly a guesstimate on our delivery dates.

Pat: I appreciate your comments on the R-25.

roger that, however, prior to purchasing my cd22 i had sold a 2000, 356 aft cabin carver, paid 200,000. and 17 months later sold it for a 40,000. loss.
not a destressed sale, in fact, it was in better condition when i sold, just what the market would bare. 130000 for a 25'er, i could see that falling to 70, maybe 80, in short order. the market is slim. to say the least. love to have one, but with the history of boat sales, i'm seeing this glass half full. please take this post in the spirit it is intended.

I hope you all know that I am certainly on the bottom of the pecking order in all this and I certainly don't have any emotions vested in East or West or who's first to get a boat.

It is just that, the very limited info I have been given to date is not jiving with the way things are playing out. I have thousands of dollars already invested and feel entitled to the facts as they are. I know C-Dory and C-Ranger ppl are not gods or devils, and they certainly have been understanding to my situations in the past.

John
