So Roger, how'd the cleaning, cooking and eating go? Love to know the 'how', do you also skin them?
Friend of mine at work went out 1 1/2 weeks ago near the oil rigs between Chan Islands and Ventura on a party boat. After a short time, the waters were infested with them. So much so that they couldn't reel their bottom catches up fast enough without having half the fish chomped off by these critters. Some of the fisherman loved them, some hated them.

They are pests for sure- they tend to kill everything in their path.
I prepared the meat by first skinning then removing the membranes. Cut the steaks to ~5", placed in a plastic bag and tapped them out with a rubber mallet.
They don't have much in the way of flavor- you need to introduce the flavor when you cook them. I used a dressing that PJ makes up with fresh garlic, lemon juice and olive oil to marinade them in. Heated the pan with olive oil and browned some garlic and capers before placeing the calamari in on medium heat.
