A couple of comments about camper backs/cockpit bimin i's. When buying a top, one must weigh the cost (perhaps cheaper if it is mass produced) vs the custom features you might want. I would suggest that a person buying a Bimini/camper back, look at the variious albums and then write the people whose design they like the best for suggestions. We used a local canvas maker--had four bids and discussed our design with each. We didn't choose the most expensive or cheapest. We do allow potential customers for the person we used to look at our Camper back.
We have a three bow top--with upright supports in the back and front so it is free standing. It does not have to be attatched to the back of the cabin. We have a pannel between the aft of the cabin top (awning rail) to the foreward edge of the bimini top which can be removed and thus allows free air flow in the summer, also allows one to enter the boat from a high dock by zipping the front pannel partly open so that that you can slip down off the dock thru this opening.
We designed the top, so it will fold back beyond the side railings and be supported on aft supports when fishing or traveling. Folding foreward will work well also. On the CD 22 we had the base supports which would slide back and forth on a track inside the gunnel, and allow the top to fold down all of the way and be along the gunnels and inboard of the motor for travel.
We did not put large windows on the side for privacy at the dock, and all clear vinyl aft for vision. We elected to make our screens to zip in to replace the side curtain and aft curtain--and then put the solid or vinly curtains below--this will allow full ventillation with the screens in place.
We also used vinly awning railings on the side of the cabin house, with short Sunbrella and zipper, as we did on the top, which seals the top and sides easily.
