Does anybody tow there C-dory and use it as a camper too. Having purchased the 16 foot Cruiser was wondering could it also be used as a camper at night off the water? I have a 1971 VW bus and stayed in that and its even smaller ! Thanks Joe

Many of us "BoaterHome" across the country. There is one couple who did this extensively with a 16, and then bought a 22 to live aboard as they traveled the US.

When I call an RV park--and they ask what type of RV--I will say a "25 foot on a trailer"--never been refused. But I would not go to a super high end resort--some of which have restrictions as to age of RV, or truck campers.

We have also stayed in WalMart and similar parking lots, rest stops, truck stops etc. We also belong to "Good Sam" (RV camping organization, as well as several other RV organizations). I have given boat tours to other campers and the occasional camp ground host. The main issue is to discharge no water--we collect dish or bath water it in a small tub, and dispose of it into the sewer drain at the camp site. I have also put a 2 1/2 gallon gas type container for the sink to drain into--by disconnecting the hose to the overboard thru hull, and using a short hose to divert into the gas type container.

Have fun boater homing!

Both last summer and the summer before, I traveled 15,000 miles each, with the boat trailered to various cruises. I only tow about 500 miles a day. I think I spent a total of 3 nights in motels during that 30,000 miles. I have the Allstays app in my smart phone. Great app for learning about places to stop and spend the night. But generally I'll stay in park or forest campgrounds (free or minimal expense), Flying J truck stops (they also cater to the RV crowd), and lately Cracker Barrel parking lots. (They allow overnight parking, but of course you should buy a meal or two while overnighting.) I've also asked to stay at other restaurants I've stopped for my evening meal. Various Walmarts have sufficed as well. (And of course always after doing a little shopping inside.) Never a serious problem. Sometimes a place can be a little noisier than liked, but I've found favorites along my more traveled routes that I prefer. Other than that, a few smaller truck stops and even some rest areas that allow up to 8 hours. Colby

Agree with Colby and Bob. One place they did not mention is Casino Parking lots. Most of them, at least out west, have ample parking and are happy to have you stay. They also have pretty decent food and clean restrooms.

I have also used hospital parking lots, truck scale pullouts (but be sure to be out of the way), and Safeway (and other grocery places), though in some areas they are posted. I have even found marinas that are posted for no over nights.

Check first tho. I checked with several casinos, one in Reno, and was told that I would need to spend a certain amount gambling to be allowed to park overnight. If I were a gambler, that might be ok, but I'm not. But I respect their right to want folks to use their services to park overnight. Colby

Yes, like many of the C-Brats our CD 22 is a camper, while on the road. 80,000 miles spread over 16 boating seasons without a single night in a motel or pay to stay rv Park other than USA state & national parks & Canada Provincial Parks.

Colby is right. There may be signs. If not, there will be some security person. I don't gamble, but I do eat at their establisments. That worked the one time I was approached by security. Oh, and most hospitals have a cafeteria, (as well as clean restrooms), so they can be a one stop place too.

I would look for casinos that have big trucks in the parking lot. Clearly those places don't have a problem with big/long vehicles. I wouldn't try it on the Las Vegas strip though.

Casino Camper gives all of the info on casino camping. In the LV area we stay at the Mesquite, NV, Casablanca Casino. They have free RV parking in West Lot, and RV hookups in the South lot for $25. Different than Circus Circus on the Strip--which requires reservations and has significant fees.
