Funny you should bring up the subject. Sea Baby is being picked up today or tomorrow AM to have one put in.
Last summer I was by Mobile Marine East and Gene was in the process installing an electric winch in a 22-footer. He was also fiberglassing in a chainlocker bulkhead to keep the "heavenly" smell of wet line out of the v-berth. Part of his plan was to install a 2x4 ft hatch in the bulkhead in case work had to be performed on the winch or the anchor line/chain were to foul.
I liked the idea so much that Gene is going to do a similar bulkhead and hatch on Sea Baby. SB doesn't have a winch (YET) so the closed off area will serve as stowage for those extra PDFs we all have getting in the way. Also, having spent a couple c old NC nights on her last winter we found out first hand there was a big "draft" on the toes. Warmth is the driving force.
