Okay. At the risk of being turfed from the site. I would like to propose a 16's only sub-forum. 99.9% of all the discussions are related to to the 22's. While we teeners absorb a bunch of info and general C-Brat wisdom most is not directably relatable to our boats. I would like to see a cd16 sub-forum. To be clear this is in no way a critique on C-brats.com which I believe is the gold standard for brand specific forums.

As a former 16 owner, and a current 23 owner, and never a 22 owner, I guess I have some reservations about the idea. Look at the current "most recent topics list':

How much of that is peculiar to any particular model? Granted, 22 owners are the biggest contingent, but I'd be a little concerned about fragmenting things too much. Don't have a strong opinion, yet. Just cautious, I guess.
 
Other than a center forward window and a water tank there really is not much that cannot be applied to a 16 footer on this site. One happy family
 
I had thought about this as well. While I enjoy posts of people's adventures, most of which make me jealous and wish I could be on them, I do think the C-Dory 16 and their owners are unique. Let's face it, it's a small cool boat. We are the minority in the C-Dory world. I think we "sixteeners" simply need to post more often. For example amongst C-Dory 16 owners, I'd like to know their best performance out of their boat. I seem to max out at about 22 MPH with my Honda 40. Should I have upgraded to the 50 HP? Does anyone regularly carry 4 people on the their 16? I have fished with 3 and it is tight. I did learn that in calm water you can easily fish from the front of the boat safely. I think C-Dory 16 owners will agree they love the ease of trailering the boat, launching the boat, relative inexpensive maintenance cost, and the compliments you get at the boat ramp each and every time you launch.

Ha! A couple of years ago we had a rather spontaneous get together of 16 footers at Coulon Park. Only four boats showed up, Sark with his whole family, Pat and Patty Anderson on Crabby Lou, Peter Jamero on his Baraquino, and Dotty and me. It was an overcast and blustery day on Lake Washington. I even remember passing you (Spike on BotlegHooch) as you were out there fishing. Well, we had a wonderful time checking out each other's boat, laughing about the informative seminars we didn't need because we don't have any of those "systems" to worry about, and finally cruising around Mercer island. Whether you think of it as an entry level C-Dory or unique, special in its own right, those of us who own one, or who have owned one, love it. :love

Stan- I had a cruiser with a 40 and now have an angler with a 50. Both motors were/are Hondas. Frankly, I haven't seen any significant difference in the performance of the two. Our 40 maxed out in the lower 20's and the 50 may get a mile or two more. That's our comfort limit anyway.
 
I have to come in with Bill on Noro Lim. We have had a 22 Cruiser (NoddyBleu) and our current 16 cruiser (Luna.) NoddyBleu was a great boat, but did not capture my heart in the same way as Luna.
That said, I think it would be a shame to dilute the Brat experience in any way. There is so much mutual content, and room for adaptation, for all CDs that nearly every post I am interested in has utility for any mid-sized or small motor vessel (especially those of the O/B persuasion.)
So much of this site unites people of the same state of mind, and six feet, here or there, is of lesser concern.

Just a footnote of history.....in the year 2000, Brock (Brock of 16' Bambina) and I (at the time with a 16' Cruiser) were discussing having a 16' Gathering at Langley (Washington) on the old C-Dog site. As we discussed the possible gathering on the site, one of the 22' owners said, "is it ok for 22's to attend". We said absolutely and thus the very first (I believe C-Dory Gathering).

Needless to say we had a great time with three 16's (The late Mike Jordan aka dancing Mike) just happened into the marina, not knowing about the gathering. The. 22's in attendance that I remember included Roger and Lisbeth on Sensei, Fred and Robbin on Anita Marie, Joe and Peggy on Betty Louise and one 27', Don and Deb on Halleighs Comet. I believe there were others, but off the top of my head those are the attendees I remember.

So how does this relate to the topic of this thread....we found that regardless of which model of vessel we each owned, we all shared a common interest and bond and we were interested in learning about the intricacies of each vessel regardless of its' size.

I still enjoy the discussions the 16 footers share with the group even though the 16' Sea Shift super sized to the 22' Sea Shift in 2004. That being said...all you 16eeners keep sharing your experiences etc. with us. I enjoy hearing what you have to say!

When we had our '99 16 footer, we had a 50 HP Honda with an 8 HP Honda kicker. We routinely had three of us on board...at the time we owned the 16 our daughter was 10 years old through age 15. We cruised extensively South, Central and North Puget Sound, The San Juan Islands, several local lakes and Lake Chelan. These were usually day time trips or camping on shore or staying in marinas with motel accomodations nearby if overnighting. On a very few instance we had a 4th person (an adult) on board with us. We would put one or two folding chairs in the cockpit. Needless to say we were heavily loaded, but never the less we enjoyed the scenery in these cruising areas as much as we do now on the 22. We did not fish and still don't with the 22, but we did do a lot of crabbing. I don't recall our top speed with the 50 HP, but with me alone, I venture to say I managed to top out at 28 knots on flat water.

Thanks for the information Lizzie. I had a feeling the Honda 50 was not going to provide say an extra 10 MPH. I agree with you that I feel like we're traveling pretty fast at 22 on the water. The most enjoyable speed for me, especially to take in the scenery is 8 to 10 MPH. I do wish our Florida C-Dory owners were as big as the Washington State group. I had suggested before that I believe C-Dories could have a larger presence here in Florida. Well it's off to do some fishing today in our expected 82 degree heat.

Stan, Rarely did/do I ever run at WOT with the 16' or the 22' because the water has to be flat and even then boh vessels would seem squirrelly. Plus I'm not a "go fast" guy...more "slow and sure".
On several occasions both vessels have been used on a lake for inner tubing our daughter and her friends. (This just reinforces to me the multitude of recreational activities these vessels shine in).
 
Stan, I just viewed the pix in your photo album and really like the guest seats you installed in the cockpit....nice touch!
 
I actually reached 23.5 MPH today with a strong current and wind behind me.

Lets assume we are all talking GPS speed in order to compare in a scientific manner. I have reached 21.5 mph on a flat calm lake powered by my 30HP 2-stroke Yamaha on my 16' C-Dory Angler with 2 people and 40 lbs of kit plus 12 US gals (46 L) fuel.
I have now powered up with a 2003 Honda 50HP and easily reach 27 mph in ripple conditions. I think 30mph is possible in a flat calm. My WOT RPMs "6100" with a factory prop.
Weight is a big factor to speed and a Angler model is lighter, therefore should be a little faster.
