Chain and rode

Want to order 25ft 1/4 inch galvanized ht chain,and 3strand 1/2inch nylon rode. Probablly order 300 or 400 ft and cut it. Where is good to order from? I will check defender any other suggestions? Thanks.
 
I ordered my chain from Defender. For the rope it was either Defender or Fisheries Supply, I forget which. 1st Chain Supply is one that gets mentioned for good prices, but I found Defender to be good, and they're people I like to give business to as well (1st might be too - I just don't "know" them).

I like to buy a US-made chain, so I bought ACCO brand. For the rope I decided to try an eight plait (first time I've used it) because it packs down nicely in the locker compared to three-strand. I bought Yale Brait™.

I would be sure who makes the rope rode. The big manufactures are New England Rope, Sampson Rope and Yale Cordage. Go to each manufacture's web sites and read about the different ropes before you order. There are many characteristics which make one rope better than another. It affects the way the rope "lays", without kinks and hockles, will it continue to be supple or will it become stiff and very difficult to handle. How well will it lay in the anchor locker?

Yes, you can buy much cheaper chinese rope, but in the long run the difficulty it may give you is not worth the few dollars savings. Anchor gear is very important safety gear.

Agree: buy US chain. Galvanizing is far better. 1/4" strength is plenty, but I prefer High Test.
